Libs Abroad Weekly Roundup Presented by Coinbase: 11/17/23

Following the New York Liberty’s historic 2023 season and first WNBA Finals appearance since 2002, Libs Abroad is back for its 2023-24 series presented by Coinbase. Throughout the WNBA offseason, we will bring the overseas hoops right to you including weekly recaps, where to watch, player of the month awards, stats, standings and more!

This week, Jonquel Jones arrived in China where she joined perennial WCBA contender, Inner Mongolia. In her season debut this morning, Jones continued the momentum from her historic playoff campaign, totaling a near triple-double of 33 points, 18 rebounds, and eight assists on 61.9% (13-21) from the field.

Nyara Sabally made her overseas professional debut with USK Praha in the Czech Republic, one of the top-ranked international clubs. Sabally has averaged 13.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 1.7 assists in her first three games across the ZBL and EuroLeague.

Jocelyn Willoughby is playing in the WNBL for the second year in-a-row, and her first season as a member of the Adelaide Lightning. Through her first three contests, Willoughby has posted averages of 12.0 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game.

Marine Johannès returned to LDLC ASVEL Féminin for her fifth season with the club, having previously won both the LFB and EuroCup Championships in 2022-23. Johannès will now gear up for Lyon’s dual LFB and EuroLeague schedule, with her first matchup this Sunday in France against Landes.

On November 10, LDLC ASVEL Féminin announced the signing of veteran center, Stefanie Dolson, who will compete alongside Johannès in her first season in France.

Han Xu is 11 games into her WCBA title defense with Sichuan Yuanda, where she guided her club to a 10-1 start. Han is currently averaging 14.1 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists while converting on a combined 58.7% from the field.

Leonie Fiebich, who New York acquired in a four-team trade last February, has been competing for Zaragoza in LF Endesa and EuroLeague.

The 6-4 forward has shot a combined 48.1% from three across both leagues, en route to averages of 12.1 points and 7.4 rebounds across 12 total games.

Marine Fauthoux, a 2021 third round draftee of the Liberty, joined Lyon after three seasons with Basket Landes. Although the defending champs have struggled out of the gate, in large part due to injuries, the 5-8 guard has provided consistent production with averages of 15.4 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 3.6 assists across 11 contests.

Raquel Carrera, a 6-3 forward, is in her fifth season in the LF Endesa and fourth with Valencia Basket – the league’s reigning champions. The Liberty acquired Carrera’s draft rights in a trade with the Atlanta Dream in 2022. Through nine contests, including EuroLeague, Raquel is currently averaging 7.6 points and 4.1 rebounds on a combined 53.8% from the field.
