Libs Abroad February 2025 Recap
As the WNBA offseason progresses and the highly anticipated 2025 season approaches, let’s take a look at what the New York Liberty have been up to throughout an action-packed month of hoops in February:
UNRIVALED
The Unrivaled playoffs are approaching, and teams are playing hard to ensure their teams finish off their inaugural seasons strong. Liberty forward and league co-founder Breanna Stewart has led her team, Mist BC, to a 4-3 record in February and finished off the month with two consecutive wins. Stewie amassed a dominant month averaging 19.6 points per game, 11.0 rebounds, and 3.8 assists, while recording five double-doubles and earning two Players of the Game honors.
Sabrina Ionescu continued to pace the Phantom BC offense in scoring – averaging 16.0 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 3.5 assists throughout the month of February. Most notably, Ionescu posted a points-rebounds double-double of 16 points and 13 boards on Feb. 18.
Betnijah Laney-Hamilton shined in her Unrivaled debut after being assigned as a relief player for Andrew Wade’s (Liberty Director of Player Development) Laces BC. In her debut, Laney-Hamilton totaled 23 points on an efficient 10-of-17 shooting (58.8%) from the field, including the game-winner over Phantom BC.
ATHLETES UNLIMITED
Liberty guard Jaylyn Sherrod is playing in her first season at Athletes Unlimited in Nashville, Tenn. Sherrod is currently ranked 22nd overall in the league and has appeared in nine games across four teams so far. Through the nine contests, Sherrod is averaging 6.8 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 1.9 assists while shooting an efficient 39% (7-18) from three.
Sherrod is currently playing for Team Sims, alongside new signee Isabelle Harrison. Harrison signed with the Liberty on February 21 ahead of her eighth WNBA season. She is no stranger to Athletes Unlimited, playing in her fourth season and is also a member of Athletes Unlimited Pro Basketball Executive Player Committee. Harrison is currently ranked 8th overall leaguewide, and through nine games, has averaged 16.8 points, 7.9 rebounds, and one assist per game while staying efficient in the paint, converting on 50.9% (59-117) of her field goals.
CHINA
Marquesha Davis has continued to impress as part of Shandong in the WCBA, who finished February with a 5-2 record and earned a playoff berth. The young guard has averaged 16.0 points, three rebounds, and two assists while shooting an efficient split of 57.7% (41-71) from the field and 52% (11-21) from three. Earlier today in Round One of the playoffs, Q had her most dominant performance as a professional, totaling 20 points on a perfect night of shooting – including 10-of-10 from the field and 5-of-5 from three, while also grabbing six rebounds and dishing two assists.
Han Xu and Sichuan Yuanda completed a perfect month of February, finishing with a nine-game win streak. Han continued to be one of the team’s top scorers, averaging 17.8 points per game alongside 5.8 rebounds and three assists on 61% (30-49) through four appearances. Her top performance came in a dominant 96-55 win over Xinjiang, where she recorded 23 points, five rebounds, and three assists on a combined 69.2% (9-13) from the field.
Sichuan and Han Xu recently welcomed New York Liberty center and WNBA Finals MVP, Jonquel Jones, as they gear up for the WCBA postseason and pursue their third consecutive title in the month of March.
TURKEY
Kennedy Burke has continued to put up big numbers with Ormanspor in February, averaging a combined 15.0 points, four rebounds, and one assist per game while shooting at 41.7% (15-36). KB’s top performance of the month was on Feb. 22 where she nearly recorded a double-double with 19 points, nine boards, and a pair of assists.
After returning from injury, Marine Johannès had a standout performance for Mersin in a EuroLeague on victory Feb. 26 when she netted 21 points on 5-of-7 from three in 23 minutes of action.
Also in Mersin’s backcourt is Marine Fauthoux who recorded two outings this month of 23 points in KBSL and EuroLeague, respectively. Her top shooting performance of the season was on Feb. 12 where she knocked down a stellar 83% (5-6) from distance.
SPAIN
Leonie Fiebich is continuing to prove why she is LF Endesa’s reigning MVP. Through five games this month, Leo is averaging 12.6 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game with consistent shooting splits of 51% (22-43) from the field and 43% (13-30) from three. In a must-win game versus Girona, Fiebich scored 15 points on a combined 63% (5-8) from the field and 60% (3-5) from deep, helping Valencia secure the victory and claim first place in LF Endesa’s standings.
ITALY
After a perfect January, Ivana Dojkić and Schio had three contests in February where the 27-year-old guard averaged 4.7 points, four assists, and 1.3 boards per game across their Serie A1 and EuroLeague schedules.
FRANCE
After signing a training camp contract with the Liberty on Feb. 1, Esmery Martinez laced up for two games with Flammes in France’s LFB in February, highlighted by a well-rounded outing of nine points and 12 boards in an 83-72 victory.
