In December 2020, Jocelyn Willoughby announced the launch of her book club, Read What You Sow, in partnership with Brooklyn’s Cafe con Libros Feminist Book Store. Read What You Sow explored the injustices disproportionately facing Black and Brown people within healthcare, education, and other social systems fundamental to the welfare of all people through the lens of womxn of color.
The club, which was comprised of Liberty fans, advocates, and educators, met bi-weekly for three months where they explored Brit Bennet’s The Vanishing Half, Pushout by Dr. Monique Morris and You’ll Never Believe What Happened to Lacey: Crazy Stories about Racism by Amber Ruffin and Lacey Lamar. Jocelyn led and moderated each conversation, and in addition, met with the authors of all three books on the Liberty’s Instagram Live for one-on-one conversations.
