NEW YORK – SEPTEMBER 7, 2023 – For the second consecutive season, the New York Liberty collaborated with Xbox to create a custom gaming inspired basketball court for the team’s home games on September 7 and 10 at Barclays Center. Last year, New York became the first current WNBA team with a secondary court.

This year’s court design will highlight the Starfield universe, pulling key art and elements from Bethesda Game Studios’ highly-anticipated space exploration game, including a unique glow-in-the-dark effect.

The continuation of the Liberty and Xbox’s innovative partnership sets out to inspire the next generation to imagine the possibilities of space exploration, especially for young girls and women:

“Our award-winning partnership with the New York Liberty continues to flourish with creative activations that not only defy convention, but showcases both our imaginative and fun mindset,” said Chris Munson, Head of Xbox Sports Partnerships. “We love pushing the boundaries of what is possible, and what better way to shoot for the stars then with the hotly-anticipated space exploration game, Starfield.”

“We’re proud to continue our award-winning partnership with Xbox showcasing another first-of-its-kind secondary court and the global launch of Starfield,” said Liberty CEO Keia Clarke. “Continuing our partnership with Xbox provides a unique opportunity to reach and engage with new fans, while also creating synergy between the WNBA and gaming communities.”

Clarke added, “This collaboration will come to life during historic times for both sides, with Bethesda Studios releasing its largest video game in over a decade, and the New York Liberty having its best season in franchise history.”

In addition to the secondary court activation, the New York Liberty and Xbox are hosting Girls Inc. of NYC, a STEM educational program empowering and inspiring girls and young women ages 6-21, for a special planetarium day at Liberty Science Center in Jersey City, N.J. to experience and learn more about outer space and space exploration.
