Tina Charles Leads Liberty To 74-58 Victory Over Dream
ATLANTA – Tina Charles led the New York Liberty to a second-consecutive win when the team faced the Atlanta Dream on Sunday afternoon. Charles scored 24 points and snagged eight rebounds in the 74-58 win over the Dream.
New York opened the game with a 5-0 run that led to 50% (9-18) shooting from the field to end the first quarter. The Liberty opened the second quarter similarly, on a 10-0 run against Atlanta, with Tina Charles scoring 17 points on 53.3% (8-15) shooting from the field in the first half.
New York shot 48.3% from the field in the first half, leading by as many as 14 points. Atlanta struggled from the field in the first half, shooting only 27.6% from the field. Between both teams, only one three-point shot was made (Atlanta) in the half.
The second half got off to a quick start for New York when Kia Nurse hit 2-2 free throws in the opening minute followed by a steal and layup for rookie and Georgia-native, Asia Durr to extend the Liberty lead to 12 points.
However, in the third quarter, the Dream cut the Liberty lead to as few as eight. New York maintained their lead and went on to win the game, thanks to 43.8% (7-16) shooting in the fourth quarter alone.
UP NEXT: The Liberty continue their three-game road trip and head to Seattle to play the Storm for the first time this season on Wednesday, July 3 at 3 p.m.

- On the game, the Liberty shot 43.7% from the field. All of New York players who hit the floor scored at least one basket in the game.
- Tina Charles scored 17 points in the first half of the game. She went on to have a good night, scoring 24 points on 41.7% shooting from the field.
- In this game, Charles (2,211) passed Lisa Leslie (2,210) for the second spot on the WNBA’s all-time leaders list in two-point field goals. Indiana Fever’s veteran forward Candice Dupree (2,529) is first on the list.
- Brittany Boyd (15) and Asia Durr (11) also scored double figures for the Liberty.
- Reshanda Gray grabbed a game and career-high 15 rebounds and added 8 points for New York.
- Kia Nurse and Nayo Raincock-Ekunwe added 6 points each, which is a season-high for Nayo.
- Off the bench, Tanisha Wright also provided a solid performance for the Liberty with 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 points.
- New York scored 48 points in the paint, compared to 18 by Atlanta.
- The team also outrebounded the Dream 43-30 on the night.
