On Tuesday, the New York Liberty (10-3) defeated the Connecticut Sun (12-4), 89-81, in the second game of their 2023 four-game season series, remaining undefeated against Connecticut this season.

At Mohegan Sun Arena, the Liberty finished on 48.6% (34-70) shooting from the field, 45% (9-20) from three, and 85.7% (12-14) at the free throw line.

New York finished with four double-digit scorers in tonight’s game (Stewart, Vandersloot, Laney, Jones).

With her basket at the 1:27 mark of the first quarter, Breanna Stewart became the fastest player in WNBA history, at 196 games, to reach 4000 career points. She ultimately finished with a game-high 24 points on 64.7% (11-17) shooting from the floor, including 100% (2-2) from three, nine rebounds, and three assists.

Courtney Vandersloot added 17 points on 46.2% (6-13) shooting from the field, including 66.7% (2-3) from three, nine assists, and six rebounds.

Betnijah Laney totaled 16 points on 41.7% (5-12) shooting from the floor, including 50% (3-6) from deep, and three rebounds.

In her first return to Connecticut, Jonquel Jones finished with 14 points on 66.7% (6-9) shooting from the field, including 50% (1-2) from deep, a season-high-tying 11 rebounds, four blocks, and two assists, marking her third double-double of the season.

At 80 career games, Sabrina Ionescu became the fastest guard to 500 rebounds with her board at the 8:11 mark of the second quarter, ultimately finishing with six points, five assists, and three rebounds.

 For Connecticut, DiJonai Carrington finished with a career-high 23 points and six rebounds off the bench, while Alyssa Thomas added a triple-double 11 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists, and four steals.
