Sabrina Ionescu to Start in 2022 WNBA All-Star Game

Ionescu will play in her first career WNBA All-Star Game on July 10 in Chicago

NEW YORK – JUNE 22, 2022 – Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu has been selected to play in the AT&T 2022 WNBA All-Star Game, to be held on Sunday, July 10 at Wintrust Arena in Chicago, Illinois.

Ionescu, the franchise’s first-ever No. 1 overall draftee in 2020, will start in her debut WNBA All-Star appearance after averaging 16.7 points (11th in WNBA), 6.1 assists (4th in WNBA) and 6.4 rebounds (20th in WNBA) while shooting 44.1% from the field, 34.3% from three and 92.2% at the free throw line through the first 16 contests of the 2022 season. Additionally, on June 12, Sabrina became the first-ever player to record a triple-double within three quarters, as well as the youngest player to record multiple in a career at just 24 years old.

The third-year guard is now the New York Liberty’s 16th all-time player selected as an All-Star in team history along with Kym Hampton (1999), Rebecca Lobo (1999), Teresa Weatherspoon (1999-2003), Sue Wicks (2000), Vickie Johnson (1999, 2001), Tari Phillips (2000-2003), Becky Hammon (2003, 2005), Ann Wauters (2005), Shameka Christon (2009), Essence Carson (2011), Cappie Pondexter (2011, 2013-2014), Tina Charles (2014-2015, 2017-2019), Sugar Rodgers (2017), Kia Nurse (2019) and Betnijah Laney (2021).

The league’s head coaches will select the 12 All-Star reserves, which will be announced on Tuesday, June 28. The 18th WNBA All-Star Game will be broadcast on ABC at 1 p.m. ET.
