Sabrina Ionescu Named Eastern Conference Player of the Week for Third Time in 2022

NEW YORK – AUGUST 8, 2022 – The WNBA announced today that New York Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu has been named Eastern Conference Player of the Week for games played from Monday, August 1 to Sunday, August 7.

Ionescu led New York to a 2-1 finish on the week, including two home victories over the Los Angeles Sparks in a true back-to-back. In the three contests, she averaged 23.7 points, 6.3 rebounds and five assists while shooting 46.9% (23-49) from the field and 34.6% (9-26) from three. Sabrina’s week was highlighted by her 31-point performance against the Sparks on August 2, where she powered the Liberty to a 29-point win and became the third-fastest player to score 30+ points in league history in just 23:49 minutes.

On August 6, the third-year guard continued her historic 2022 campaign, becoming the first player in WNBA history to record 500+ points, 200+ rebounds and 200+ assists in a single season.

In addition to being named the Kia WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the Month for June, this weekly honor is Ionescu’s third of the season, fourth of her career, and 47th in Liberty franchise history.
