Tina Charles of the New York Liberty was named the WNBA’s Eastern Conference Player of the Week for games played July 13 through July 19. Now in her second season playing with her hometown team, the four-time All-Star led New York to a 3-0 record as the Liberty improved to 10-5 (.667) and took over the top spot in the East after home wins over the San Antonio Stars and Connecticut Sun, and a road victory over the Phoenix Mercury.

Behind a dominant defensive performance which included a franchise single-game record eight blocks from rookie Kiah Stokes, the New York Liberty (9-5) defeated the Connecticut Sun 64-57 on Thursday night at Madison Square Garden to move into a tie for first place in the Eastern Conference standings.

New York Liberty center Tina Charles (Queens, N.Y.) has been voted an Eastern Conference starter in WNBA All-Star Balloting 2015 presented by Boost Mobile, it was announced Tuesday evening.
