Chinese Women’s National Basketball Team will be on May 9 at 7 p.m.

New York, New York (March 25, 2019)— The Liberty announced today that it will host the Chinese Women’s National Basketball team in a preseason game scheduled to be played May 9, 2019 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

This landmark game is the latest collaboration between the NBA/WNBA and the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA), who have a long history of working together to grow the game in China. Liberty ownership has organized this game to further people-to-people exchange between China and the United States, and support women athletes globally.

“Having the opportunity to showcase world-class women’s basketball through our relationship with the Chinese Women’s National Basketball Team is an absolute privilege,” said Liberty owner Joe Tsai, who also owns 49% of the Brooklyn Nets. “With the opportunity to play on the big stage at Barclays Center, we’re proud to bring Liberty basketball to Brooklyn and our passionate community here.”

This game is one part of a growing series of events in which the CBA is collaborating with overseas leagues. In the fall of 2019, the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) will host its global gathering in China. The NBA China Games 2019 Presented by Vivo will feature two preseason games between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Nets.  The Lakers and Nets will play Thursday, Oct. 10 in Shanghai, followed by a rematch in Shenzhen on Saturday, Oct. 12. The NBA China Games 2019 will be the NBA’s 27thand 28thgames in China, with 17 NBA teams having played games in Beijing, Guangzhou, Macao, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Taipei since 2004.
