LONG ISLAND (March 29, 2022) – The Long Island Nets, NBA G League affiliate of the Brooklyn Nets, concluded their celebration of Women’s History Month by hosting their annual Women’s Impact Game, presented by National Grid, tonight at Nassau Coliseum.

Throughout the evening, the LI Nets honored the New York Liberty, sister team of the Brooklyn Nets, in a variety of ways including LI Nets players wearing co-branded jerseys sponsored by Webull and Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) customized to resemble Liberty uniforms. Each of these special jerseys will be auctioned at a later date with proceeds going towards Pink Cans for Cancer, a non-profit supporting breast cancer research and cancer treatment. The Liberty’s Timeless Torches also performed at the game and the LI Nets distributed co-branded LI Nets and Liberty beanies to the first 1,000 fans in attendance.

“We are thrilled to honor our sister team, the New York Liberty, in celebration of Women’s History Month,” said Alton Byrd, Senior Vice President of Growth Properties at BSE Global, parent company of the Long Island Nets. “It is important our organization continues to uplift and highlight young girls and women for their contributions on and off the court.”

Additionally, the LI Nets hosted a pregame panel discussion for all ticket holders featuring notable women in the sports industry. The conversation focused on overcoming adversity and obstacles, and panelists included New York Liberty CEO, Keia Clarke, WSLAM creator Camille Buxeda, Melanie Littlejohn, Vice President, National Grid, and foot and ankle surgeon at HSS, and New York Liberty team physician Anne Holland Johnson, MD.

“I’m incredibly proud that the Long Island Nets chose to honor the women of the New York Liberty in such an innovative and thoughtful way this Women’s History Month,” said Liberty CEO Keia Clarke. “We are grateful for their partnership this month and throughout the year.”

Tuesday’s Women’s Impact Game was part of a series of community events the LI Nets took part in throughout Women’s History Month that were focused on uplifting young girls and women in sports. On Friday, March 25, the Nets hosted a group of 100 students for an all-girls basketball clinic, “Her Time to Shine” presented by HSS. The Nets also collaborated with HSS to produce “Manifest Her Game,” a digital content series curated by female clinicians at HSS to provide nutrition, injury prevention and overall wellness tips for females athletes.
