Liberty Acquire Leonie Fiebich and Future Draft Capital in Four-Team Deal

NEW YORK – FEBRUARY 11, 2023 – The New York Liberty has acquired the player rights to 6-4 forward Leonie Fiebich, the Chicago Sky’s 2024 Second Round pick, and 2025 First Round pick swap rights with the Phoenix Mercury in exchange for forward Michaela Onyenwere. The four-team deal also includes the Dallas Wings. The full transaction is listed below:

Fiebich (23), a native of Landsberg am Lech, Germany, was drafted No. 22 overall by the Los Angeles Sparks in 2020. A member of the German National Team, Leonie is currently competing for Zaragoza in Spain. In 22 combined contests between LF Endesa and EuroCup, she is averaging 14.5 points and 7.1 rebounds per game while knocking down 44.6% (45-101) from three-point range.

The 2021 WNBA Rookie of the Year and first in franchise history, Michaela Onyenwere helped New York to consecutive playoff berths in her first two WNBA seasons. Through 66 regular season games, including 30 starts, Onyenwere averaged 6.6 points and 2.5 boards per contest in 17.8 minutes per game.

“Michaela was integral in reinvigorating the Liberty team,” said Liberty General Manager Jonathan Kolb. “Her contributions throughout the early parts of her career have been incredibly impressive. Mic brought unmatched energy and positivity, irrespective of her role, which speaks to her character and selflessness. She has a very bright future, and we wish her the absolute best in Phoenix where she is poised to take on a larger role.”
