The Liberty (2-19) were outlasted by the Mystics (8-13) on Saturday afternoon, losing 75-58.

Key Runs:

Washington opened the contest on a 9-0 run, forcing a New York timeout with 6:30 remaining in the first quarter.

An 11-2 Liberty run ignited the team’s scoring midway through the first and erased the Washington lead to tie the game. To end the opening frame, Washington outscored New York 18-15.

A 10-0 Mystics run with less than 7 minutes remaining before the half gave the team a 13-point lead, its largest lead of the first half.  Back-to-back Liberty threes cut the Mystics’ lead to 7 points with 5:23 on the game clock. Washington ultimately outscored New York 18-14 in the second quarter to take a 36-29 lead at the half.

Two minutes into the third quarter, Washington went on a 7-0 run to take a 14-point lead. Kiah Stokes connected on three consecutive shots from beyond the arc to open up the Liberty’s second half scoring, totaling a 9-0 Liberty run of her own.

A Mystics’ 10-2 run to close the third, gave the visiting team a 17-point advantage going into the final quarter. Washington outscored New York 21-11.

While scoring was more balanced in the final frame, the Liberty could not dig out of the 20-point deficit. Washington and New York totaled 18 points apiece in the fourth quarter.

Today’s win for the Washington Mystics eliminated the Atlanta Dream from 2020 playoff contention.

Up Next: The New York Liberty will take on the Dallas Wings tomorrow, September 13, at 12:00 p.m. ET in their final game of the 2020 season. The game will be available on CBSSN and Fox Sports GO.
