The Liberty (2-20) fell to the Wings (8-13) on Sunday afternoon, losing in the final seconds, 82-79, in their last game of the 2020 season.
The league’s two youngest teams faced off for the second time this season in a game originally set for August 27. All WNBA teams called off scheduled games August 26-27 for a day of reflection in response to the Kenosha, Wisconsin police shooting of Jacob Blake seven times in the back.
New York showcased its 10th starting lineup combination featuring Jazmine Jones, Kia Nurse, Leaonna “Neah” Odom, Amanda Zahui B and Kiah Stokes.
New York shot 47.8% (32-67) from the field and 15.9% from beyond the arc.
The Liberty had 34 rebounds, 18 assists and had 48 points in the paint compared to Dallas’ 26.
Jazmine Jones and Leaonna Odom totaled 21 and 20 points, respectively. This marks the first time in franchise history two rookies scored 20+ in the same game. The last time this was done in the WNBA was Jewell Loyd (21) and Ramu Tokashiki (21) on June 28, 2015.
Four of New York’s five starts recorded double-digit scoring figures.
Key Runs:
The teams opened the game trading baskets for the first half of the first quarter. With 4:59 remaining, New York led Dallas, 14-11 on 60% shooting from the field and 66.7% from deep.
Dallas regained its first quarter lead with 2:18 remaining with a fast break layup by Arike Ogunbowale. The Wings outscored the Liberty 23-17 in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Dallas went on a 12-3 run to take a 16-point lead however, New York went on a 16-5 run and cut the deficit to 5 at the half. Neah Odom scored a career-high 14 points in the first half of the contest.
New York came out of the locker room at half and ignited a 6-0 run to take a 44-41 lead with 7:56 remaining in the quarter. New York stretched the lead to as many as 8 points and outscored Dallas 31-22 in the third quarter. Jazmine Jones scored 14 points in the third quarter alone.
The Wings had the scoring advantage in the final frame, outscoring the Liberty, 19-12.

Kia Nurse finished her third-year campaign nearing a triple-double of 12 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists over 34:03 minutes.
The WNBA’s leading scorer, Arike Ogunbowale, kept Dallas’ playoff hopes alive by netting 26 points on the afternoon.
Marina Mabrey was the Wings’ second leading scorer, adding a career-high 24 points and grabbing 6 boards.
