NEW YORK – JULY 20, 2022 – Coinbase Global, Inc. (Coinbase) and the New York Liberty today announced a multiyear partnership that makes Coinbase the first Official Cryptocurrency Platform of the Liberty.

The Liberty and Coinbase partnership is inspired by Coinbase’s mission to achieve economic freedom while being grounded in crypto education for fans. Through season-long activities and educational experiences, fans have engaged more deeply into the cryptoeconomy with Coinbase, including the chance to earn crypto through on-court contests, giveaways, and more. To wrap the regular season, Coinbase and the New York Liberty, alongside web3 sports lifestyle company, round21, will host “Futures Night” on August 2nd, an arena-wide theme night celebrating the convergence of basketball x blockchain at Barclays Center. Fans will have the opportunity to learn more about the world of crypto through on-site education, NFT creation, an AR experience, custom merch giveaways and other exciting activations.

“We are always looking for new and innovative ways to engage our fans, including our recent drop of the league’s first NFT,” said New York Liberty CEO Keia Clarke. “As Coinbase looks to reach more women and create more accessibility in the cryptoeconomy, this partnership is a natural fit for the Liberty.”

“Partnering with the Liberty was a win-win,” said Coinbase Director of Partnerships & Experiential, Jessica Williams. “Their willingness to push boundaries and the team’s rich crossover into fashion, music, and culture, creates an opportune moment to bring something special to Brooklyn.”

Coinbase also recently announced a larger investment in the WNBA ecosystem, becoming the presenting partner of the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup and supporting all 144 athletes through a WNBPA partnership. More here.
