Breanna Stewart Named Eastern Conference Player of the Week for Fifth Time in 2023
NEW YORK – AUGUST 15, 2023 – The WNBA announced today that New York Liberty forward, Breanna Stewart, has been named Eastern Conference Player of the Week for games played from Monday, August 7 to Sunday, August 13.
Stewart led New York to a pair of victories, solidifying the franchise record for single-season wins (24), while averaging 31.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 6.0 assists, as well as 2.0 blocks and steals per game while knocking down an efficient 59% (23-39) from the field and 50% (7-14) from three.
On August 13, Breanna became the first player in WNBA history to record three 40-point games in a season, and the third-ever to have three-plus career 40-point games. Further, three of the franchise’s now four 40-point games have come this season – all by Stewart.
Highlighted by a 30-point first half, Stewart finished with a game-high 42 points on 65.2% (15-23) shooting from the field, including 50% (5-10) from three, six rebounds, six assists, and three blocks. This was just the second game in WNBA history of at least 40 points, six rebounds, six assists, and three blocks on at least 60% shooting from the floor.
Two nights prior, she tallied a game-high 21 points and 12 boards on 50% (8-16) from the field, 50% (2-4) from three, and six assists; her fourteenth double-double of the season.
This weekly honor is Stewart’s 15th of her career, her fifth this season, and the 54th all-time in Liberty history.
