A Weekend of Celebration for Our Legends

Taking our Libs Fam back to where it all began!

This past Sunday, Liberty Legend Tari Phillips became the eighth member of our Ring of Honor — the highest recognition for former players in franchise history.
If you know, you know. From 2000 to 2004, Tari was the heartbeat of the squad: a four-time WNBA All-Star who helped lead us to two Eastern Conference titles and two Finals runs (2000, 2002). She made an instant impact in her first Liberty season, earning the league’s first-ever Most Improved Player award and putting up 13.8 points & 8.0 boards a night.

Over her Liberty career, Tari stacked:

  • 4x All-Star (2000–2003)
  • All-WNBA Second Team (2002)
  • Top 10 in rebounding every year from 2000–2003
  • Franchise rebounding queen (1,077 total) — a record that stood for 13 years
  • Still 2nd all-time in Liberty boards, 5th in steals, 9th in points

Her name is all over our record books and a proof of the impact she left on New York hoops.

Tari joined a legendary group: Kym Hampton, Vickie Johnson, Teresa Weatherspoon, Sue Wicks, Rebecca Lobo, Becky Hammon, and Crystal Robinson.

The induction ceremony went down during halftime at Barclays Center as former teammates Kym Hampton, Teresa Weatherspoon, Sue Wicks, and Crystal Robinson surrounded Tari in support of this honor.

We made it a whole weekend, too. Legends Weekend brought 20+ former players back to the city. The Liberty extended a warm welcome to the ones that paved the way. Legends were spoiled with partner perks— stylish AWAY luggage, beauty must-haves from Essie and Fenty, self-care essentials from Flamingo, and more. We also teamed up with American Express for a flower shop–themed pop-up in Union Square where fans literally gave Liberty legends their much-deserved flowers.

It was a weekend of love and light as we welcomed back greatness and rich history showing our fans where it all began.
