Liberty to Host LA Sparks for Maddie’s Birthday Saturday Night

NEW YORK, NY – MAY 18, 2016 – The New York Liberty continues a five-game home stand when it welcomes Candace Parker and the Los Angeles Sparks to Madison Square Garden on Saturday, May 21, at 6 p.m. Saturday evening’s contest will also feature Liberty mascot Maddie’s Birthday Celebration, presented by official health plan partner Fidelis Care, which includes kid friendly activities and entertainment throughout the evening.

On the court, a pair of All-Stars performing at the height of their abilities will go head-to-head as Liberty star Tina Charles matches up with Parker for the first time since 2014.

Both are off to strong starts to 2016, with Charles averaging 24.0 points and 11.0 rebounds during the Liberty’s two victories to open the season, while Parker posted an impressive 34 point, five rebound game in the Sparks’ win over Seattle last weekend.

Maddie’s Birthday celebration is annually one of the most anticipated dates on the Liberty calendar, and this year is no exception. Like the Liberty, Maddie turns 20 in 2016, and to celebrate, the first 5,000 fans in attendance will receive a 12-month calendar featuring Liberty players and coaches posing with rescued dogs from Best Friends Animal Society.

Upon entering Chase Square at The Garden, fans will have the opportunity to pose for pictures with Maddie, and there will be several family fun activations located around the concourse, including face painting, a Maddie tattoo station, a giant birthday card for fans to sign, and Best Friends Animal Society will be on site with some of their rescue animals searching for a new home.

The Liberty electrified the crowd at Madison Square Garden with a 79-71 victory over the Dallas Wings in the home opener for its 20th WNBA season on Sunday evening. New York is off to a 2-0 start for the first time since 2011.
