Up next, Meet Amber Orrange.
Q: Growing up, was the WNBA always a goal of yours?
Amber Orrange: “Ever since I was a little girl, it was always my dream to play in the WNBA. I have always loved basketball and that has never changed over the years. I am extremely excited and fortunate to be at the point where I have a chance to fulfill my goals. I definitely do not take it for granted and plan to make the most of it.”
Q: Being on a winning team for four years, what are some tips you’re going to take away?
Amber: “Playing on the collegiate level taught me how to fulfill any role that my team needed from me depending on the situation, and adjusting to whatever changes in my role that arose. I had the opportunity to play with two No. 1 draft picks in Chiney and Nneka. With them, I was more of a complementary player. But after they graduated, the offense changed and as more of a focal point, I had the ball in my hands and had to be a lot more aggressive.
“Given that experience, in order to win, I will do whatever it is that is asked of me and fulfill that role. Whether it is run an offense, be a great defender, or be a creator, I am more than willing and understand the goals of the team.”
Q: What are you looking forward to learning from Candace Wiggins?
Amber: “Candice Wiggins is a veteran in the WNBA and a great player, and any information or any advice that she has, I am more than eager to learn from her, as well as from the other players.
“We both carry the bond of being Stanford student-athletes and playing for a great Stanford basketball program and I look forward to playing with and learning from her.”
Q: Who has been your biggest influence in your life?
Amber: “My mother has been the greatest influence in my life. She has always expected me to work hard and to give my best effort in everything that I do. She also taught me and showed me that I could do anything that I put my mind to.
“She supported my dreams of playing in the WNBA, allowed me to chase those dreams, and gave me encouragement along the way. I could not have gotten in the position that I am without her, and I am forever grateful.”
Q: Which actress would you pick to play you?
Amber: “If I had to choose any actress to play me, it would have to be Sanaa Lathan.”
