The Liberty (2-14) were outlasted by the Sun (8-9), 70-65, on Tuesday night.

New York shot 34.5% from the field and 27.3% from beyond the arc.

The Liberty bench scored 49 of the team’s 65 total points, and outscored the Sun’s bench 26-7 in the first half.

New York grabbed 35 boards and recorded 7 steals along with 6 blocks on the night.

The Liberty’s defense held the Sun to just 70 points, compared to 82 in their first meeting of the season on August 22.

Key Runs:

Connecticut went on a 12-2 run to end the first quarter, giving the team a 10-point advantage, 18-8 heading into the second.

New York outscored Connecticut 24-11 in the second quarter and entered the locker room up 3 points after trailing by as many as 11 in the first half.

DeWanna Bonner jumpstarted a 10-2 run, scoring 5 points to open the third quarter to put Connecticut ahead 5 points before a timeout at the 6:28 mark.

The Sun outscored the Liberty 23-16 in the third quarter, however, New York went on an 8-4 run to close the quarter.

Scoring was more even in the fourth, but Connecticut ultimately outscored New York, 18-17.

Kia Nurse contributed a team-high 18 points on 40.0% (2-5) shooting beyond the arc. She scored 12 of her points in the first half, leading both teams. Nurse also grabbed her 200th career rebound tonight.

Jazmine Jones totaled 15 points on 37.5% from the field off the bench, 7 of which came from the charity stripe where she shot 70%. Jones also connected on 50% (2-4) from deep.

Kylee Shook scored a career-high 9 points for the fourth time this season, shooting a perfect 4-4 from the field, and grabbed 4 rebounds in 17:26 minutes. Shook also connected on her sole three-point attempt tonight.

Amanda Zahui B recorded her 100th career assist, finishing with 3 on the night. She entered the game with 99 career assists. Zahui B also finished with a team-high 10 rebounds. Today marks Zahui B’s fourth consecutive contest with 10+ boards. She is one game shy of tying Tina Charles’ New York Liberty record for consecutive 10+ rebounding performances.

Layshia Clarendon and Jocelyn Willoughby each added 7 points for New York.

DeWanna Bonner led Connecticut to victory with a game-high 27 points and 12 rebounds.

Alyssa Thomas and Natisha Hiedeman finished with 15 and 10 points for the Sun, respectively.
