Mercury Top Liberty in Final Game of 2022 Series, 76-62

On Saturday, the New York Liberty (13-19) fell to the Phoenix Mercury (14-19), 76-62, in the final game of their 2022 three-game season series.

At Footprint Center, the Liberty finished on 30.9% (21-68) shooting from the field, 21.9% (7-32) from three, and 81.3% (13-16) at the free throw line.

One Liberty player scored in double figures in tonight’s game (Ionescu).

 With her assist to Crystal Dangerfield at the 9:31 mark of the first quarter, Sabrina Ionescu became the first player in WNBA history to record 500+ points, 200+ rebounds, and 200+ assists in a single season. On the night, Ionescu finished with a team-high 20 points on 40% (6-15) shooting from the floor, a team-high five assists, five rebounds, a steal, and a block.

In her first game since May 17, Betnijah Laney totaled seven points, four rebounds, and a block.

Han Xu and Marine Johannès both finished with six points apiece off the bench, while Stefanie Dolson recorded her eighth game this season of seven-plus rebounds with her team-high seven-rebound performance.

Natasha Howard, who finished with six points, three assists, and two rebounds, left the game at the 6:17 mark of the third quarter with a right ankle injury and did not return to the contest.

For Phoenix, Diamond DeShields finished with a season-high and game-high 25 points, including 14 first-quarter points, and eight rebounds.
