Libs Abroad Weekly Roundup Presented by Withings: 10/14

While the majority of Liberty players have not started their respective overseas seasons, the frontcourt trio of Natasha Howard, Raquel Carrera and Sika Koné each immediately impacted their clubs en route to the win column this past week in Turkey and Spain, respectively.

Raquel Carrera was the busiest member of the Liberty organization this week with three games in five days, two of which resulted in wins.

Carrera led Valencia to the La Supercopa LF Endesa Finals, an in-season tournament between the league’s reigning top teams, after defeating Avenida 83-71 on Saturday in the Semifinals. The 6-3 forward tallied nine points, including a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line, and six rebounds.

Although Valencia fell just short of defending their cup title against Girona, Raquel had her top performance of the week in the Finals when she recorded a game-high 18 points on 70.0% (7-10) shooting from the field and eight rebounds in 27 minutes.

On Wednesday, Carrera helped the Orange defeat Zaragoza, 63-58, in their second regular season game when she added four points, three assists and a pair of boards.

Supercopa Finals Highlights

Natasha Howard impressed in her Turkish League debut with Fenerbahçe, guiding her club to a 71-63 victory over Mersin at home.

Howard’s effort proved to be a difference-maker after finishing the contest with 16 points on 40.0% (6-15) shooting from the field, six rebounds and four steals across a team-high 37 minutes.

Natasha will return to action tomorrow, October 15, when she takes on Antalya 07 in another KBSL home contest at 9:00 am ET; the game will be livestreamed here on YouTube.

Sika Koné helped Spar Gran Canaria secure their first win of the LF Endesa season in a 64-56 victory over Jairis on Wednesday.

A nightly double-double threat, Koné totaled 14 points and 15 rebounds on 50.0% (6-12) shooting in 37 minutes of action.

Bec Allen was recently diagnosed with two rib fractures and a partially collapsed lung that she suffered during a collision in the FIBA World Cup, with an approximate recovery timeframe of two months.

Valencia announced that Allen is expected to return to Spain after the two months. We’re wishing Bec a speedy recovery, and further updates will be provided as they become available.
