Marine Johannès opened her 2023 slate with Lyon on a high note yesterday, lifting the offense to a convincing 86-62 victory in Round One of the EuroCup Playoffs against Arka Gdynia.

Johannès exploded for a season-high 26 points after converting on a combined 61.1% (11-18) from the field and 40% (4-10) from three while also grabbing six boards across 34 minutes of action.

Raquel Carrera also kicked off 2023 with her top scoring performance of the season when she posted 19 points on a near-perfect 80% (8-10) from the floor and a trio of boards in Valencia’s 75-73 EuroLeague win against Bologna on Wednesday.

In a similarly efficient performance, Raquel finished with 17 points on 66.7% (8-12) shooting in a 92-72 victory over Sika Koné’s Spar Gran Canaria on December 27.

To close out 2022, Sika Koné was named the Libs Abroad Presented By Withings December Player of the Month after putting together another impressive month with averages of 16.1 points and 12.7 rebounds while shooting a combined 54.4% (43-79) through seven contests.

Sika extended her double-digit streak to 15 games after finishing with 10 points and seven boards against Valencia, followed by a 12-point, 17-rebound performance where she powered Gran Canaria to an 88-77 win against Barça CBS.

On December 30, Sami Whitcomb led the Perth Lynx to their fourth win of the season when she posted 11 points, five assists, and two steals across 34 minutes in an 82-72 home victory over Adelaide.

Sami will return to action tomorrow when Jocelyn Willoughby and the Sydney Flames travel to Perth; both clubs are entering with two-game winning streaks.

Jocelyn Willoughby continued her steady production for the Sydney Flames, securing a pair of victories against Canberra behind two double figure scoring performances–extending her streak to seven games.

On December 23, Jocelyn added 10 points on an efficient 83.3% (5-6) from the field, followed by a 12-point, five-assist effort on December 30.

Michaela Onyenwere is progressing nicely with Avenida following her off-season knee procedure, having now appeared in a total of seven contests.

Michaela’s recent play was highlighted by a pair of 12-point outings that showcased her scoring efficiency. On December 28, in an 81-42 rout over Tenerife, Onyenwere converted on 55.6% (5-9) from the field. In Wednesday’s EuroLeague match, the 2021 Rookie of the Year shot 80% (4-5) from the field and perfectly from both three-point range (2-2) as well as the free throw line (2-2).
