For this month’s installment of the Libs Abroad recap, we will highlight the top Liberty performances from across the world. We will begin with January’s Libs Abroad Player of the Month: Jocelyn Willoughby.
Jocelyn Willoughby Drops 35 Points After Three-Week Delay
After play was postponed for three weeks in Israel, Jocelyn Willoughby showed no signs of the delay in her return to the hardwood with Hapoel Petah Tikua. On January 25, Willoughby totaled 35 points, 12 rebounds, and 6 assists while shooting 3-6 from deep and 12-12 at the free throw line. Her 35-point effort is currently the highest scoring game across all Liberty players during the 2020-21 off-season.
Rebecca Allen’s EuroCup Start
Rebecca Allen, the Liberty’s sole representative in the 2021 EuroCup, led Valencia Basket to a perfect 3-0 start in their international championship. Over the three game stretch, Allen averaged 21.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.7 steals while shooting 56.5% (13-23) from three. When combining both Liga Femenina de Baloncesto and EuroCup records, Bec and Valencia are 22-1.
Megan Walker Still Undefeated
Megan Walker is the last Liberty player to still have an undefeated record, as Sopron is currently a perfect 17-0 in Hungarian League play and 6-0 in EuroLeague. Walker’s top performance this month came on January 9, as she totaled 18 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists in a 104-48 win.
Joyner Holmes Kicks off the New Year with a 20-Point Game and Win
Joyner Holmes, who’s currently averaging a double-double of 14.1 points and 10.8 rebounds per game, continued her strong play into the new year. On January 4, Holmes finished with 20 points and 8 rebounds while shooting 8-16 from the field, 3 of which were triples. Joyner’s performance led Maccabi Ra’anana to an 86-68 victory.
Fenerbache Wins Behind Kiah Stokes’ Double-Double
Kiah Stokes and Fenerbache, who sit at a near perfect 23-1 across its Turkish League and EuroLeague schedules, have continued their success into January. Stokes’ top performance came on January 9, where she posted a double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds (8 of which were offensive), on 5-7 shooting (71.4%) from the field. Kiah’s efficient night scoring and efforts on the offensive glass helped maintained her club’s perfect record in domestic play, as they won 71-61.
Marine Johannès Nets 20 Points Against Fenerbache
Marine Johannès had a busy afternoon against Kiah Stokes’ Fenerbache in EuroLeague play on January 22. Marine totaled 20 points, 4 rebounds and 4 steals, while converting on 4 of 7 attempts (57.1%) from beyond the arc. Stokes’ squad pulled out the victory late, 67-65, as Fenerbache (whose only loss is to Lyon) evened their head-to-head series at one win apiece.
