Just two weeks remain in the EuroLeague regular season and the EuroCup playoffs are progressing. Bria Hartley and Mersin had a bye week as they prepare for their EuroCup quarterfinal series with Flammes, and pulled an upset win over Fenerbahce in the Turkish League to improve to 9-6 overall.
In EuroLeague action, Epiphanny Prince (Dynamo Kursk) and Amanda Zahui B (USK Praha) were both victories and in strong shape to advance to the quarterfinal round. Kia Vaughn and Fenerbahce also also in position to play into the quarterfinals, but suffered a disappointing 1-point loss to Avenida this week.
In Turkey, Shavonte Zellous (Besiktas) also picked up a win, while Kiah Stokes and Botas fell to 2nd ranked Hatay.
LIBERTY INTERNATIONAL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Amanda Zahui B – USK Praha
Amanda Zahui B led UKS Praha to a pair of wins last week and averaged 20.5 ppg, 10.0 rpg, and 5.0 apg in the EuroLeague and Czech League games. She had 13 points with 9 rebounds in the win over Villenueve in EuroLeague and then posted 28 points with 11 rebounds on 13-of-14 shooting in a blowout Czech League win.

Rebecca Allen notched a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds but Lyon fell to Tarbes 75-58 last week in the French League to fall to 6-6 overall. Allen also had a strong impact on the defensive end where she came away with 4 steals and blocked a shot in her 26 minutes of action. Allen is averaging 9.3 ppg, 5.8 rpg, and 1.8 spg for Lyon. She will be back in action on Jan. 26 when he squad takes on Mondeville.

A monster game from Nayo Raincock-Ekunwe resulted in a 66-56 win over Nantes over Nice last week in the French League. Raincock-Ekunwe scored 24 points with 9 rebounds, and also dished out 5 assists. She continues to lead the top French League in both scoring (16.7 ppg) and rebounding (11.3 rpg). Nantes returns to action on Jan. 27 when it faces last place Roche.

Amanda Zahui B enjoyed an outstanding week in leading USK Praha to a pair of victories last week. In a critical EuroLeague win over Villeneuve, Zahui B scored 13 points with 9 rebounds and 3 assists, as her team improved to 7-5 with two group games remaining, remaining in the driver’s seat for a berth into the quarterfinals. They will face Sopron Basket in their second to last group game this week. In a 139-35 drilling over Loko Trutnov in Czech League play, Zahui B went 13-of-14 from the field to finish with 28 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists in just 23 minutes of action, earning Czech League Player of the Week honors.

Epiphanny Prince and Dynamo Kursk hauled in two more victories last week to remain unbeaten this season. Prince was the star in a 94-63 win over Bourges in EuroLeague play, scoring 17 points behind 3 3-pointers, 6 assists, and 5 steals. Dynamo Kursk also cruised to a win over Dynamo NR in Russian League play, as Prince tallied 4 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 points. Dynamo Kursk will face Galatasaray in EuroLeague play this week, and close out group play next week against CCC Polkowice.

Lindsay Allen and Dynamo Moscow won three games last week, improving to 3-8 in the Russian League while moving above .500 in EEWBL group play with a pair of victories, now sitting at 4-3. Lindsay Allen poured in 21 points with 5 assists in an 81-68 win over Tsmoki-Minsk in EEWBL action over the weekend, and followed that up with 10 points and 5 more assists in a win over Sirenos. Allen is averaging 9.9 ppg and 5.1 apg in the EEWBL. Dynamo Moscow is scheduled to resume Russian League play against Nadezhda Orenburg on Jan. 28.

Mersin continued its 2nd half surge in the Turkish League by picking up a 78-73 win over 1st place Fenerbahce over the weekend. Bria Hartley led the way scoring 19 points with 8 assists, and Mersin improved to 9-6 overall and is still tied for 4th place in the league standings. Hartley is averaging 19.7 ppg and 4.1 apg in Turkey this season. Mersin will open its EuroCup quarterfinal series with Flammes this week, then face OGM Orman in the Turkish League.

Fenerbahce fell into a tie for 2nd place in EuroLeague Group B and the Turkish League after a pair of losses last week. In a narrow one point 65-64 loss to Avenida in EuroLeague, Kia Vaughn scored 7 points with 5 rebounds for Fenerbahce. Against a surging Mersin team led by Liberty teammate Bria Hartley, Vaughn was 3-of-3 from the field to finish with 8 points and 4 rebounds. Fenerbahce will face Yakin Dogu in EuroLeague action this week, then Bornova in the Turkish League.

Kiah Stokes finished with 8 points and 11 rebounds for Botas, which fell to 8-7 and is tied for 6th place in the league standings. Stokes is averaging 14.3 ppg and 14.3 rpg for her Turkish team. Up next is a meeting with Adana ASKI on Jan. 27.

Zellous scored 12 points with 6 rebounds and 4 assists for Besiktas, as she averages 15.6 ppg in Turkish League action. Besiktas will resume action against Abdullah Gul next weekend.
