Liberty Hosts More than 18,000 Fans at The Garden

NEW YORK, NY – JULY 15, 2015 – The New York Liberty defeated the San Antonio Stars, 84-68, Wednesday afternoon at Madison Square Garden in front of 18,617 people, the largest crowd to watch a Liberty game at The Garden since 2002.

“It was exciting to see not just a large crowd, but so many young people watching New York Liberty basketball and experiencing Madison Square Garden,” said New York Liberty Team President Isiah Thomas. “Our Camp Day initiative is an outstanding opportunity to introduce the next generation of fans to the WNBA, and our exceptional players who lead both on and off the court.”

It was the sixth-largest crowd to ever see a Liberty regular season game at Madison Square Garden, and the most fans since the team drew 19,563 against the Charlotte Sting on August 11, 2002.

The Liberty is currently 8-5 overall and a half game out of first place in the Eastern Conference.  New York has played particularly well at Madison Square Garden, where it boasts a record of 5-2.

The Liberty continues its home stand on Thursday, July 16, at The Garden, when it hosts the Connecticut Sun, currently a half game behind the Liberty in third place in the East.  Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m., and the game will be broadcast on MSG Network.
