Liberty Drop Final Game of May Homestand to Sun, 92-65


On Wednesday, the New York Liberty (1-4) fell to the Connecticut Sun (2-1), 92-65, in the second game of their 2022 four-game season series.

At Barclays Center, the Liberty finished on 42.3% (22-52) shooting from the field, 31.8% (7-22) from three, and 77.8% (14-18) at the free throw line.

Q1: Liberty opened the game on a 10-2 run before the Sun closed out the first on a 16-5 run from the 5:44 mark through the end of the period.

Q2: From the 5:44 mark of the first through the 5:12 mark of the second period, the Sun extended their run to 34-8 over that 10:32 minute span.

Q3: Connecticut went on an 8-0 run from the 2:53 mark of the period to the 0:54 mark.

Q4: From the 2:53 mark in the third to the 5:57 mark in the fourth, Connecticut went on a 20-5 run over that 6:56 minute span


Two Liberty players scored in double figures in tonight’s game (Laney, Dolson).

Betnijah Laney navigated early foul trouble to finish tied for a game-high 16 points on 46.2% shooting from the field and 50% (4-8) from deep. She also added three assists.

Stefanie Dolson finished as the team’s second-leading scorer with 13 points on 71.4% (5-7) shooting from the field. Dolson corralled a game-high seven rebounds and nailed her only attempt from three-point range. Tonight, Stef also tallied her 900th career defensive rebound.

Connecticut’s DeWanna Bonner finished tied for a game-high in steals with four and led the Sun in scoring with 16 points.
