Liberty Assistant Coach Charmin Smith Returns to University of California, Berkeley for Head Coaching Position

NEW YORK, NY (June 21, 2019) –New York Liberty assistant coach Charmin Smith has accepted a position as the head coach of the University of California, Berkeley women’s basketball team, the Liberty announced today.

Smith will rejoin California, as she previously served as associate head coach for 12 years before joining New York in April. The Golden Bears’ former head coach Lindsay Gottlieb recently accepted a position with the Cleveland Cavaliers as an assistant coach.

“It’s been a pleasure to work alongside Charmin and I’m excited for her as she takes on this new opportunity,” said Liberty head coach Katie Smith. “She is incredibly knowledgeable about the game and that translates into how she coaches and inspires players. We wish her continued success in her new role.”

New York’s assistant coach Herb Williams, director of player development Teresa Weatherspoon and video coordinator Barbara Farris will all take on increased responsibilities.

The date of Charmin’s last game with the Liberty is yet to be determined.
