Just a few of the New York Liberty players have continued to play over the holiday break and they sure did dominate on the court to help their teams in standings. Essence Carson faced her former Liberty teammate Cappie Pondexter in a head-to-head battle, Tina Charles post back-to-back double-doubled and Kiah Stokes hits a big shot from behind-the-arc to take a game to overtime!
On December 27th, Stokes hit a huge 3-pointer to tie the game at the end of regulation 59-59 and force overtime. The same game she had a double-double, scoring 19 points and grabbing 17 rebounds to lead her team. Avery Warley-Talbert and Botas captured their 4th win of the season, she also had another double-double and is averaging 14.1 ppg, 9.5 rpg and 1.1 apg.

ESSENCE CARSON #32 – Canik BLD

Canik faced the defending champions Galatasaray on December 23rd which dropped them back down to 8th place while Galatasaray moved up to second place, tied with four other teams. Carson was able to contribute 13 points in 31 minutes of play and she went 2-4 from behind the arc. On the 27th, Carson faced former teammate Cappie Pondexter in Samsun to see who will take over the 7th position. Carson dropped 16 points to be one of the leaders on the court for her team in the win. Now both Canik and Besiktas share the 7th position until the next round.

TINA CHARLES #31- Xinjiang

The WCBA season has now entered the Third Stage and Xinjiang split a pair of games against Sylvia Fowles and Beijing. In the first game, in which Xinjiang suffered a narrow 3-point loss, Tina Charles led her team with 22 points and 15 rebounds in 40 minutes of play. They headed into Round 2 and routed Beijing by 23 points to pick up an easy win. Charles scored 12 points while grabbing 10 rebounds. She posted a double-double in back-to-back . In the next round they will face Shanghai, Tina is averaging 24.6ppg, 11.3rpg and 2.8 apg.

Kiah Stokes #41- Samsung Life Blue Minx

After suffering a disappointing 66-39 loss to defending league champions Woori Hansae on Christmas Eve, Kiah Stokes and the Samsung Life Blue Minx bounced back to pick up a 70-69 win over Shinhan Bank, and Stokes played a big role in the win, posting a huge double-double with 19 points and 17 rebounds. She hit a three ball near the end of regulation to force overtime where Samsung held on for the one-point win. For the year, Stokes is averaging 9.9 points and 9.2 rebounds per game, while at 7-10 overall Samsung is ranked fifth in the league standings..

Avery Warley-Talbert #23- Botas

It was a 1-1 week for Avery Warley-Talbert and Botas, as they lost a tight contest to Besiktas, 84-80, before bouncing back to topple Orduspor, 72-64. Warley-Talbert had six points and three rebounds in 15 minutes of action against Besiktas but saw a return to her normal level of production in the win over Orduspor in which she had 13 points and 14 rebounds. Having won three of its last four games, with Warley-Talbert leading the way, Botas has won three of its last four games to move into a tie for ninth place in the league standings. She is just shy of averaging a double-double at 14.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game.
