NEW YORK, NY– Despite five New York Liberty players scoring in double figures, the team lost to the Chicago Sky, 91-83 in a hard-fought battle on Wednesday night at the Westchester County Center.
For the first time, rookie guard Asia Durr scored the team high with 19 points on 50% shooting from the field. Durr also shot 100% (3-3) from the three-point line. New York struggled from the field in the first quarter, shooting just 21.7% (5-23), while Chicago shot 33.3% giving them a 20-12 lead going into the second quarter.
Liberty guard Tiffany Bias opened the second quarter with a quick three-point shot to end Chicago’s 8-0 run. The Liberty trailed the Sky 34-41 going into the half.
Nine of Durr’s 19 points came in the 3rdquarter, where she helped carry the team to cut the Sky lead to within four points.
Chicago’s 62.5% shooting from the field in the 4th quarter gave them exactly what they needed to edge the Liberty in their first meeting of the season.

- Tina Charles moved up another notch on the WNBA all-time scoring list in her 16-point performance, passing DeLisha Milton-Jones (5571) to become 12thoverall.
- Today, Brittany Boyd scored a season-high 14 points, dished out 7 assists and grabbed 5 rebounds in her 30 minutes of play.
- Kia Nurse also added 14 points on 31.2% shooting from the field.
- Amanda Zahui B added 13 points and 10 rebounds for New York. She is leaving tomorrow to join Team Sweden for EuroBasket.
- New York ended the first half with only one turnover and nine on the night.
- This is the first time this season that the Liberty have lost a game where the team turned the ball over less than ten times.
