Liberty to Host Minnesota at Columbia University in Exclusive Preseason Game for Season Ticket Holders

NEW YORK, NY – MARCH 10, 2016 – The New York Liberty announced today it will host the Minnesota Lynx in a WNBA preseason game at Levien Gymnasium on the campus of Columbia University on Thursday, May 5, at 7 p.m.

The preseason contest will be open exclusively to 2016 New York Liberty season ticket holders, providing these highly valued fans with unique and up-close experiences throughout the evening, and an intimate atmosphere to watch these marquee teams as they prepare for the new year. This will be the first time any WNBA team has hosted a preseason game against another league foe with access limited to season ticket holders.

“As we begin our 20th WNBA season, the New York Liberty organization wanted to give its incredible fans the opportunity to see their team like they never have before,” said Team President Isiah Thomas. “This game and special event is just one example of the value that comes with being a Liberty season ticket holder, and is a way to say ‘thank you’ to some of our most loyal supporters.”

In what will be the Liberty’s only home preseason game before the start of the 2016 campaign, season ticket holders in attendance will have the chance to stay for a postgame Q&A with players from New York and Minnesota, participate in a fantasy game featuring Liberty legends, and join an interactive on-court halftime performance.

Transportation from Madison Square Garden to Columbia University will be provided, and the Cinco De Mayo themed event will feature complimentary food and beverage.

The Liberty will play one other 2016 preseason game, and for the second year in a row it will face the Chicago Sky at the University of Delaware. The game will be held Sunday, May 1, at 2 p.m.

New York’s 20th WNBA season tips off at Washington on Saturday, May 14, and the Liberty’s 2016 home opener at Madison Square Garden will be against the Dallas Wings on Sunday, May 15, at 5 p.m.
