The Libs Abroad Weekly Roundup, now featuring seven players with the start of Jocelyn Willoughby’s season, is back with yet another slate of impressive performances from around the world. Let’s get you caught up!
Jocelyn Willoughby burst onto the WNBL stage and showcased her versatility with a pair of impactful performances for the Sydney Flames. Against Sami Whitcomb’s Perth Lynx, Jocelyn led all scorers with 26 points on 44% (11-25) from the field, 60% (3-5) from three, and five assists; full game highlights are available here.
Last Saturday, Willoughby tallied 11 points and five boards across 31 minutes of action in her Australian League debut.
Marine Johannès guided Lyon to a perfect week, after two game-changing performances in LFB and EuroCup action. Marine’s week was highlighted by her near double-double of 23 points and nine rebounds, while also adding four dimes, in Lyon’s 71-70 overtime thriller win over IDK Euskotren on Wednesday.
Earlier in the week, Johannès led her squad to a 66-62 victory with a game-high 17 points and five assists.
Natasha Howard continued her dominant run with Fenerbahçe this week and has now eclipsed 20+ points in three of her last five contests.
In Saturday’s 97-53 win, Tash posted a 21-point and 10-rebound double-double on an extremely efficient 76.9% (10-13) shooting from the field.
Howard followed up with a strong EuroLeague showing, finishing with another efficient night of 17 points on 53.3% (8-15) shooting, six boards and a trio of assists in an 85-67 victory.
Sika Koné put on a rebounding clinic in her most recent outing last Saturday, totaling 16 points on 44.4% (4-9) from the floor and a game-high 21 rebounds (no, that’s not a typo). Sika’s dominant display on the glass earned her the LF Endesa Week 7 MVP Honors.
Koné has now secured a double-double for Gran Canaria in five of seven games, while recording double figure scoring and a minimum of eight boards in each contest.
Sami Whitcomb provided Perth with the all-around performance needed to counteract Jocelyn’s breakout scoring performance, finishing with 13 points, five assists, two boards and two steals in the 80-72 victory.
In Perth’s second win of the week, Sami totaled 16 points while knocking down 53.8% (7-13) of her attempts from the field and 40% (2-5) from deep.
Raquel Carrera appeared in two games this week between her LF Endesa and EuroLeague schedules with Valencia.
Raquel’s top performance of the week was on Tuesday, when she recorded 12 points and five boards on 66.7% (4-6) from the field in a 76-68 EuroLeague win against Bourges.
Last Saturday, Carrera added six points and six rebounds in an 86-81 victory over IDK Euskotren.
Despite Landes’ slow start to the 2022 season, the majority of which have been narrow losses, Marine Fauthoux has provided pace and hustle to the reigning LFB champion’s lineup on a nightly-basis.
Marine’s notable outing of the week was a well-balanced finish of eight points and four assists on 40% (2-5) shooting from distance.
