NEW YORK, NY – April 22, 2017 – The New York Liberty will open its 2017 Training Camp at MSG Training Center on Sunday, April 23. New York will welcome 19 players to its camp this preseason:
The Liberty is coming off back-to-back 20-plus win seasons and WNBA Playoff berths. Last year, New York finished 21-13 overall, posting the best record in the Eastern Conference for the 2nd year in a row. All-Star forward Tina Charles finished the season leading the league in scoring (21.5 ppg) and rebounding (9.9 rpg), becoming just the 3rd player in WNBA history to pace the league in both categories, finishing 2nd in the MVP voting.
Head coach Bill Laimbeer returns for his 5th season in New York. Over the past two years, Laimbeer has guided the Liberty to a 44-24 (.647) record.
*Note: The Liberty will have five players absent for the start of training camp as they complete competition for their international club teams – Epiphanny Prince (Russia), Amanda Zahui B (Russia), Kia Vaughn (Czech Republic), Kiah Stokes (Turkey), Shavonte Zellous (Turkey).
