Alesia Howard is the vice president of communications and social responsibility for the New York Liberty WNBA team where she oversees public relations, corporate and internal communications, as well as media relations as the primary liaison between the Liberty and the local, national and international media. Additionally, she leads social responsibility, community partnerships, and public service initiatives.
Before being promoted to VP in 2021, Howard served as Director of Communications and PR where she was responsible for creating PR plans and strategies on behalf of the organization as well as managing player and staff media interviews, press conferences and information disseminated by the team.
Prior to joining the New York Liberty, Howard had a career in government and higher education communications including positions at The Ohio State University and the City of Columbus Mayor’s Office. Most recently, she worked as Marketing and Communications Specialist for the Columbus Recreation and Parks Department in Columbus, Ohio. In that role, she served as spokesperson for the department’s 29 community recreation centers, outdoor education program, aquatics, as well as youth and adult sports.
Howard, a native of Columbus, Ohio, attended Ohio University where she was a captain of the women’s basketball team, graduating in 2012 with a degree in Communications. She went on to earn a Master’s in Public Relations and Advertising from DePaul University in 2014.
She resides in Brooklyn with her mini poodle Halo Phife Dawg Howard.
