Tina Charles voted Eastern Conference All-Star Starter #TCinCT
Tina Charles will play in her fourth All-Star game tomorrow (2015, 2014, 2013, 2011) , and second as a starter. Charles has definitely earned that spot. She has had an eventful first half of the season, on and off the court. Charles has climbed up record charts, achieved milestones, all while leading the New York Liberty to its best opening record since 2001 at 12-5, first place in the Eastern Conference.
Donates Half of her Salary to Hopey’s Heart for Second Straight Season
For the second straight season, Tina Charles is donating half her salary to the charity she founded in 2013, Hopey’s Heart foundation.
“I lost a friend to Sudden Cardiac Arrest. I read about it prior to starting my foundation,” Tina mentioned. “For people to know what I am doing, it feels great.”
Charles created this charity in honor of her aunt Maureen “Hopey” Vaz, who died of heart failure in 2013. Charles has been working since then to raise awareness on the importance of purchasing AEDs in hospitals and schools in case of sudden cardiac arrest, the leading cause of the death in the United States.
“I know this is my way to glorify God besides playing basketball,” Tina said. “I just want to make an imprint while I am here.”
Tina Charles gets 100th double-double, 2nd all time to Lisa Leslie
Midway through her seventh season in the WNBA, Tina Charles has already jumped to second all-time in double-doubles (105) to Lisa Leslie – who finished with 157, and leads all active players. On June 21st, she notched her 100th, tallying 13 points and 12 rebounds in a victory at Atlanta. She continues to rebound and score with ease, making double-doubles look like no trouble for the All-Star- who already has eight on the season.

Tina Charles eclipsed the 3,000 point mark in her career with 21 points in a win over Washington on July 9th, becoming the 10th fastest player to reach this milestone in WNBA history.
Eastern Conference Player of the Week July 13-19
In the week of July 13 to 19, Tina Charles was awarded Eastern Conference Player of the Week. She is the first Liberty player be awarded the Player of the Week honors this season. In that stretch, the All-Star averaged 18.1 points, 10.7 rebounds and 1.0 in wins against the San Antonio Stars, Connecticut Sun, and Phoenix Mercury, propelling the Liberty to a 10-5 record and 3 consecutive victories. She posted 14 points against the Stars, 22 in a win vs. Connecticut and 18 in a comeback victory vs. Phoenix. These wins also secured the first place in the Eastern Conference for the Liberty.
Season high 30 point night in victory to Seattle
Fresh off being named Eastern Conference player of the week, Tina validated her selection with a huge 30 point performance, on 14-of-24 shooting from the field, in come from behind win at the Seattle Storm to begin New York’s three game West Coast trip. She had 12 of those points in the fourth quarter, including back-to-back buckets to help the Liberty regain the lead, 65-64, with 7:16 to play, an advantage New York would never give back.
