Prince Guides Dynamo Kursk to SuperCup Win – International Update 10/10

It was a busy week for Liberty players with all domestic leagues across Europe underway and international EuroLeague and EuroCup competition right around the corner.

Epiphanny Prince was the 1st to play a major game this season, helping lead Dynamo Kursk to a win in the FIBA SuperCup over Yakin Dogu, as well as seeing her squad get off to a 1-0 start in the Russian League.

The 1st meeting between a pair of Liberty players occurred in France, where Nayo Raincock-Ekunwe and Nantes picked up a 75-68 victory over Rebecca Allen and Lyon.

Elsewhere, Kia Vaughn and Fenerbahce began their new campaign with a win in their Turkish League opener, while Kiah Stokes and Bria Hartley played well in narrow setbacks for Botas and Mersin respectively in their Turkey openers.

Epiphanny Prince – Dynamo Kursk
In the biggest competition of the week for any of the Liberty’s players internationally, Epiphanny Prince was able to help lead her team to a win in the FIBA SuperCup, a meeting between the previous season’s EuroLeague and EuroCup Championship squads. Prince finished with 14 points, nailing 2 3-pointers, grabbing 6 rebounds, and dishing out 4 assists as her team began its international competition on a high note.

Rebecca Allen and Lyon dropped a couple of close games in the French League this week, which included a matchup with Liberty teammate Nayo Raincock-Ekunwe and Nantes over the weekend, a tile that Raincock-Ekunwe’s team took 75-68. Earlier in the week, Allen scored 12 points, nailing a couple of 3-pointers, with 7 rebounds, but Lyon was edged by Mondeville (Stephanie Talbot) 70-67. Lyon returns to action over the weekend when it will face Landes in Round 4 of the French League regular season.

Already establishing herself as one of the most dominant players in the French League, Nayo Raincock-Ekunwe helped lead Nantes to a pair of victories last week as they improved to 2-1 overall. That included a win over Liberty teammate Rebecca Allen and Lyon, 75-68, over the weekend in a game where Raincock-Ekunwe posted 7 points with 11 rebounds. Her best performance from the period came last week in a win over Roche, where she posted a monster 23 points, 18 rebound double-double. In two games she averaged 15.0 pts, and 14.5 reb per game. She already leads the French League with 13.0 rpg. This week, Nantes opens EuroCup group action and then has Round 4 of the French regular season over the weekend.

Early in the regular season Amanda Zahui B ranks 2nd in the Czech League in scoring, averaging 21.0 ppg, as her team is off to a 5-0 start, tied for the top spot in the league. It was two more blowout wins of USK Praha, with the start of EuroLeague play right around the corner. For the week, Zahui B averaged 25.5 ppg 8.0 rpg, and 2.0 apg. Coming up on Wednesday is a meeting with Bourges in EuroLeague, followed by another league game over the weekend.

The week began with a FIBA SuperCup Championship for Epiphanny Prince and Dynamo Kursk. In the annual meeting between the previous season’s EuroLeague and EuroCup Champions, Prince and Kursk put up an impressive showing against Yakin Dogu, securing an 84-73 victory. Prince was one of the stars for Kursk, finishing with 14 points, nailing a couple of 3-pointers, also tallying 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Later in the week, Dynamo Kursk eased past Kazanochka in its Russian League opener, 90-58, with Prince scoring 6 points. Dynamo Kursk opens EuroLeague play at Castors Brai on Wednesday.

Lindsay Allen scored in double figures to help lead Dynamo Moscow to a win in its Russian Premier League season opener, 83-68, over Dynamo NR, last week. She scored 14 points with 3 rebounds and 5 assists. Allen and Dynamo Moscow have a pair of Russian League games coming up against Kazanochka and Nadezhda Orenburg.

Bria Hartley got off to a hot start in her first league game of the season for Mersin, dropping 20 points with 3 3-pointers, but it was not enough to get past Galatasaray (Allie Quigley) as Mersin suffered an 82-73 setback in its season opener. Hartley shot 6-of-12 from the field and also dished out 3 assists with a steal in 28 minutes. Coming up, Mersin will tip off EuroCup group play against Good Angels on Wednesday, and faces Liberty teammate Kia Vaughn and Fenerbahce next weekend.

Kia Vaughn made her debut in the Turkish League for powerhouse Fenerbahce and led her team to a season-opening 83-65 win over OGM Orman (Jasmine Thomas) over the weekend. Vaughn posted a team-high 19 points, shooting 7-of-8 from the field, to go along with 5 boards in the double-digit win. Fenerbahce tips off EuroLeague group action mid-week as it faces Nadezhda Orenburg, then she will battle a familiar face in Bria Hartley when Fenerbahce and Mersin matchup in the Turkish League.

Kiah Stokes had a tremendous outing in the 1st game with her new team Botas in the Turkish League regular season opener, but it was not enough to get past the 2017 EuroCup Champions Yakin Dogu (Courtney Vandersloot, Kayla McBride, Quanitra Hollingsworth, Elin Eldebrink) in a 51-48 loss. Stokes, who led the Turkish League in rebounding last year, had 15 boards in the opener to go along with 18 points and 3 blocked shots. Botas is back in action next weekend against Hatay.
