New York, NY, April 22, 2016 – The New York Liberty, a charter member of the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA), named Blueprint for Athletes™ from Madison, New Jersey-based Quest Diagnostics, the world’s leading provider of diagnostic information services, as the Presenting Sponsor of its 2016 Training Camp as well as the official Performance Testing Partner for the 2016-2017 seasons.
In 2015, the New York Liberty began using Blueprint for Athletes, a novel blood test service from Quest Diagnostics that gives athletes, both professional and amateur, insights into biological factors that may affect their athletic performance and overall health. Based on the latest sports science and technology, Blueprint for Athletes evaluates levels of blood-based health markers such as vitamin D, creatine kinase, and glucose that influence protein synthesis, energy levels, and wellness, and provides specific insights athletes can use to help improve their performance.
This year’s Training Camp has special significance as the WNBA and the New York Liberty are celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the league. The New York Liberty is one of the three original WNBA teams, along with the Phoenix Mercury and the Los Angeles Sparks, which were founded on October 30, 1996 as the women’s counterpart to the National Basketball Association (NBA). The 2016 WNBA season tips off on May 14.
“Quest’s Blueprint for Athletes serving as the presenting partner of the 2016 New York Liberty Training Camp is a natural extension of our existing relationship, as we prepare to embark on our historic 20th WNBA season,” said Isiah Thomas, New York Liberty Team President. “The Liberty takes tremendous pride in the focus we place on providing every available resource for our athletes to be successful, and with Blueprint for Athletes, we are able to give our players the tools and insight necessary to have an edge when they step onto the court.”
“Top athletes increasingly recognize that measuring one’s biological health is essential to optimal training and performance,” said Richard Schwabacher, executive director, Quest Diagnostics Sports and Human Performance. “Based on our first year of partnership together, the New York Liberty recognizes that the personalized science-based health assessments provided by Blueprint for Athletes are as vital to the team’s performance as any other facet of training.”
