International Update Nov. 9

There are now 8 healthy New York Liberty players that are dominating overseas and helping their teams remain on top. This is now the 4th week of tough competition that has wrapped up.

Rebecca Allen has debuted in her first game overseas for SEQ since early June, they were able to get the win while she chipped in 5 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assist in 19 minutes of play. They remain in 1st place in WNBL standings with an overall record of 5-2.

Kiah Stokes made her debut as well on November 2nd but they lost back to back. Stokes contributed 4 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assist in their first game and 6 points, 1 rebound and 1 assist in their second game.

Tina Charles and Xinjiang experienced their first loss of the season but Charles posted back to back 30+ point games. She led her team in the victory against Shanxi Riu Flame with 38 points, 17 rebounds and 4 assist. Epiphanny Prince and Dynamo K. remain in first place for the Euroleague and fourth in PBL standings. Sugar Rodgers continues to post double digits in scoring for her team in Puerto Rico, she is averaging 17.6 ppg.

Avery Warley-Talbert’s team were back in action this week but they fell to Fenerbahce 59-83.

Carson and Canik BLD moved up in standings from 10th to 7th in KBSL standing with this win over Fenerbahce. Carson was able to contribute 9 points and 1 rebound as they squeezed through with a win. This is now Carson’s 4th game and she is averaging 7.3 points to help her team.

Epiphanny Prince is still finding her way to the basket being able to contribute to her team winning in both leagues. Prince had 6 points, 7 assist and 5 steals on November 4th. This win vs. Good Angels helped them move up in the Euroleague to 1st place. However, they are still in 4th place in PBL standings.

Atenienses de Manati faced Mayaguez back to back, they were able to get the first win but fell in the second game two days later. Atenienses de Manati had the lead in the beginning of the second game but Mayaguez rallied back to take the lead and controlled for the rest of the game and eventually won. Sugar continues to show growth in her game being able to contribute in scoring double figures, she is averaging 17.6 ppg.

CAROLYN SWORDS – Sydney Uni Flames

The Sydney Uni Flames are now 5-2 and 2nd in WNBL standings. Carolyn continues to be a dominate post player with posting a double double back to back in both wins for the team. On November 6, she had 17 points and 10 rebounds, and two days after she contributed 14 points and 11 rebounds. In the six games she has played she is averaging 15.7 ppg and 6.2 rpg.

TINA CHARLES #31- Xinjiang

Tina Charles exploded in the November 5th game vs. second -ranked Shanxi Rui Flame. She led the team with 38 points, 17 rebounds and 4 assist. Charles went 14-16 from the free throw line and 12-29 from the field. However, Xinjiang recorded their first loss to second ranked Beijing Great Wall. Beijing Great Wall controlled the entire game and Sylvia Fowles led her team to the victory with 20 points and 8 rebounds. Tina Charles chipped in 30 points and 6 rebounds but it was not enough to get the W, Xinjiang still remain in the top position for the WCBA Group B standings at 8-1.

A healthy Rebecca Allen debuted against Melbourne and contributed to the team winning with 5 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assist in 19 minutes of play. SEQ was ranked third heading into this game but they have moved up in standings to first place. The defense of the SEQ players caused Melbourne to turn the ball over 24 times throughout the game. Welcome back Rebecca!

Kiah Stokes played significant minutes to the start of her new season overseas. This is Kiah’s first time playing overseas but she was able to put numbers on the board for her team. In their first game she contributed 4 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assist, in the second game she contributed 6 points, 1 rebound and 1 assist. The season has started off slow for Xinjiang with losing back to back but hopefully they will find their spark!

Avery Warley-Talbert #23- Botas

Botas were back in playing mode this week as they had the week off last week, but they were not able to move up in KBSL standings. They lost to Fenerbahce, who controlled most of the game on both ends of the court. Avery chipped in with  9 points and 4 rebounds for the team but that was not enough for them to clinch the win.
