In this week’s new York Liberty International Update, we highlight another Liberty player that has taken her talents overseas as Tanisha Wright signed with Maccabi Bnot Ashdod where she made an immediate impact, putting on a stellar performance last week that landed her Eurobasket.com Player of the Week for the Israeli League. Wright had a triple-double with 17 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assist to help her team in a victory, and so far Maccabi Bnot Ashdod is 3-0 with the new edition.
The Australian teams are on a break last week, and they will resume competition later this week. The WNBL was on hiatus as the Jayco Australian Opals national team had traveled to Rio de Janeiro for a test event, where they went undefeated, capping off the trip with a 77-67 win over host Brazil. Rebecca Allen, who was selected as a member of the squad for the Test event, played seven minutes, finishing with five points while knocking down a 3-pointer, in the win over Brazil.
The Turkish league continues regular season action as the league has surpassed the midway point. In South Korea, Kiah Stokes participated in this week’s All-Star game and was also the second Liberty player to garner a weekly award, and Tina Charles and her team Xinjiang locked up the No. 1 seed for the WCBA Playoffs.

Sixth ranked Canik lost on the road to fourth ranked Hatay in their second meeting of the season, both won by the Hatay squad that features Courtney Paris. Four Canik players scored in double digits, including Essence Carson who finsihed with 13 points, but that was not enough to gain the victory and add another win on their record. Hatay now moves up to second place which they share with Fenerbahce and Abdullah Gul. Canik BLD keeps their sixth place position which they share with Istanbul Univ. with losing seven games this season. In the next round Canik will face their rival Abdullah Gul which will be a game of the week. Carson is averaging double figures at 11.4 ppg.

Tanisha Wright has been added to Maccabi Bnot Ashdod in the Isreal D1 team towards the end of their regular season as they get ready for postseason play. She is already averaging 15.0 ppg and 7.0 rpg to assist her team, which is now 3-0 with the edition of the Liberty’s star guard. In a stat stuffer game against Ramat Hasharon, that was critical to the league standings, Wright had an extraordinary game with a triple-double scoring 17 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assist in 35 minutes of play. This game landed her a Eurobasket.com Player of the Week award for round 13.

Kiah Stokes #41- Samsung Life Blue Minx

Before representing the South squad in the WKBL All-Star game, center Kiah Stokes enjoyed a standout performance as third-ranked Bichumi defeated top ranked Woori Hansae 69-63 in the most crucial game of the last round which also ended Woori Hansae’s 14-game winning streak. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match, with Bichumi blocking seven shots, two of which came from Stokes. Overall, she contributed 14 points and 7 rebounds to help her team gain the victory, a performance which earned her Asia-Basket.com Player of the Week honors. Bichumi maintains third place with 11-11 record, in the next round they will face the league’s second place Hanabank which will definitely be the game of the week.

Tenth ranked Botas rolled over top ranked Abdullah Gul when they forced 21 turnovers and had a 29-17 advantage on offensive rebounding. Avery Warley-Talbert chipped in another double-double, scoring 13 points and 12 rebounds. Botas now moves up to eighth place which they share with Gelistirenler. In the next round, Botas will face third ranked Fenerbahce in Istanbul.
