This week has been full of competition and excitement! Shavonte Zellous has been able to help Adana Aski Mersin’s reverse course, as her squad has now won back-to-back games for the second time this season. She is now averaging 17.5ppg and 5.0 rpg which is a major key for the team to have another offensive presence. Rebecca Allen has continued to improve as she comes back from a knee injury, as she is averaging 10.9 ppg and 5.3 rpg, with her team SEQ on a five-game winning streak.
Tina Charles and Xinajiang won their WCBA quarterfinals matchup with a 2-0 sweep over eighth-seed Liaoning, and now prepare for a semifinal showdown with Elizabeth Cambage and Shanghai. She combined for 44 points and 22 rebounds in a total of two games for the first round of postseason play.

This week Adana Aski Mersin faced Orduspor, who they are now 2-0 against. The team played well together on both ends of the court. Shavonte Zellous led the team with 22 points and 5 rebounds. The team is on a two game winning streak with the addition of Zellous, just the second time all season they have won back-to-back games. With the win they were able to move up to 12th place with a record of 4-14, they look ahead to Yakin Dogu who they are 1-0 against.

ESSENCE CARSON #32 – Canik BLD

This week Essence Carson and Canik BLD faced some of their WNBA competition when they played Edirne. Ivory Latta and Stephanie Dolson led their team in points but it was not enough for them to pull out the victory. Carson dominated from the field with 19 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Canik BLD remains in seventh place but was able to snap the three game losing streak with this victory. They will face Mersin next week which will be an interesting game as they are 0-1 against them, and Mersin is currently tied for second in the standings at 13-5 overall.

Tanisha Wright – Maccabi Ashdod

Maccabi Ashdod was able to beat top ranked Maccabi Ramat Hen. This was a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. Maccabi Ashdod made 20 of 24 free throws (83.3%) during the game. They were also able to outrebound them 37-25 including a 16-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. Tanisha Wright chipped in 19 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists in 37 minutes of play. In the next round, Maccabi Ashdod’s seven game winning streak came to an end when they faced Bnot Hertzeliya who is ranked third in their league. Wright contributed 8 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Maccabi Ashdod now shares the second place position with Bnot Hertzeliya with three regular season games remaining.

Second-ranked Bichumi faced first ranked Woori Hansae which ended their two game winning streak with 78-42 loss. Woori Hansae held Bichumi to a 23.9 shooting percentage from the field compared to their 52.5 percent. Kiah Stokes was able to record a double-double, scoring 10 points and 14 rebounds but it was not enough to get a victory over the top ranked team. Bichumi dropped down to third with a 14-14 record. They faced Hanabank in the next round who took over the second place position in the WKBL standings. The Blue Minx have seven games remaining as the WKBL wraps up the final month of the regular season.

Avery Warley-Talbert #23- Botas

Botas faced third ranked Mersin this weekend which features some WNBA talent in Angel McCoughtry and Bria Hartley. Avery Warley-Talbert posted another double-double scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds in 33 minutes of play. However, it was not enough to capture the victory against one of the top teams in the Turkish League. Warley-Talbert continues to average a double-double of 13.3 points and 10.4 rebounds per game, ranking fifth in a very deep and talented international league in rebounding.

In the quarterfinal series, Xinjiang beat Liaoning on the road which was a nail biting game. After trailing by seven at the end of the first quarter, Xinjiang used a 23-11 second period charge to take the lead and Liaoning was not able to compete. Xinjiang dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of their points in the paint. Tina Charles had a stellar performance when she posted another double-double scoring 30 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Xinjiang stormed past Liaoning in the second game. They dominated down low again scoring 52 of their points in the paint compared to Liaoning’s 22. Charles captured another double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds, five Xinjiang players scored in double figures. Congratulations Tina and Xinjiang as they head into the Semi-Finals as they face Shanghai.

Last week’s game of the week happened when fifth ranked Sydney Uni Flames faced sixth ranked SEQ. SEQ controlled the entire game and Rebecca Allen stepped up scoring 19 points and grabbing 5 rebounds to help her team gain the victory. In the next round to keep the winning streak alive, SEQ faced Adelaide where they squeezed out the victory by eight points. Allen chipped in 12 points and 4 rebounds to help. The team is now on a five game winning streak, with Allen averaging 10.9 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game.
