International Update Dec. 14

This week the biggest win was for Avery Warley-Talbert and Botas in Turkey! The team clinched their second win of the season and was able to snap their losing streak. Warley-Talbert stepped up and scoring 19 points while grabbing 11 rebounds.  Kiah Stokes continues to keep her numbers consistent in South Korea, she had a double-double to help her team secure victory against Hanabank.

Tina Charles continues to dominate in the WCBA in China as they continue to move up in their rankings. Charles has posted a double-double for three-straight games, which helped lead her team to victories. The Sydney Uni Flames loss by 1 point to fourth ranked Townsville Fire, while center Carolyn Swords contributed 11 points and 6 rebounds.

Essence Carson and Canik BLD were not able to add another victory to the win column, when they fell to Istanbul Uni. The team remains in the 8th position in the KBSL while falling to 3-5 overall. In the next round they will face Gelistirenler who is ranked 14th with a 2-6 record.

CAROLYN SWORDS – Sydney Uni Flames

The most exciting game of round 10 took place in Sydney, who faced fourth ranked Townsville Fire. Four Sydney Uni Flames players scored in double figures, including Carolyn Swords, who posted 11 points to go along with six rebounds. The defending champion Townsville moved-up to third place while the Sydney Uni Flames dropped down the fourth position in what remains a very congested table in the second half of the season. Swords and the Flames will face a tough test against second-place Bendigo on Friday.

TINA CHARLES #31- Xinjiang

Five Xinjiang players scored in double figures, Tina Charles had a double-double scoring 24 points and 16 rebound. December 10th, third ranked Xinjiang defeated 6th ranked Shanxi Rui Flame. Tina Charles went for a back to back double-double scoring 23 points and 11 rebounds in 31 minutes of play. However, despite the victory Xinjiang dropped to 4th position due to points difference. The game of the week was between the league leader Shanghai and Xinjiang on December 12th. There were 25 personal fouls from opponent Shanghai which helped Xinjiang get some easy free throw opportunities. Charles led her team with her third double-double of the week, scoring 23 points and 12 rebounds. Xinjiang maintains the position of Top 6 leader at 15-4 overall this year.

Rebecca Allen #9- SEQ

On December 11th, SEQ lost to Perth Lynx, but was able to bounce back to finish 1-1 on the week with an 11-point win over Adelaide on Sunday. Allen received the start and played 23 minutes in the win over Perth, scoring nine points with six rebounds and three steals. SEQ has fallen to sixth in the WNBL standings and will face Townsville on Friday before going on a two-week break.

Kiah Stokes chips in a double-double for her team, scoring 13 points and 13 rebounds in their victory against Hanabank. The team won by 2 points which made it a nail biting game for both sides. A few days later the team loss to second-place S-Birds, but Kiah’s scoring numbers were consistent again, as she finished with 13 points and 8 rebounds. The team jumps to 4th place in WKBL standings while for the year Stokes is averaging 9.2 points and 7.5 rebounds per game while shooting 56.5 percent from the field.

Avery Warley-Talbert and Botas were able to snap a losing streak and pick up their second win of the season with a one-point victory over Gelistirenler. She stepped up big time with a double-double scoring 19 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in 39 minutes of play. Warley-Talbert has played in every game for Botas, and is averaging 15.1 ppg and 9.5 rpg. They return to action against Galatasary on Saturday.
