On Wednesday, Essence Carson visited patients at the Hospital for Special Surgery in the Children’s Pavilion. Her visit was highly anticipated as not only was Carson paying them a visit but she was also going to share her memories by taking over the Instagram account of @HSpecialSurgery.
That’s right- Today, I’m having an Instagram takeover with the hospital that fixed my good ol’ ACL… https://t.co/Hp4HhWJeUQ

She spent time with kids who were recovering from injuries. A few of them were sitting where she sat just two shorts years ago, in 2013, post ACL surgery.
And shared laughs with other kids who are also on the road to recovery.
Carson knows what they are going through. After tearing the Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) in her left knee in a game at Atlanta on June 7th, 2013 on a driving layup, she missed the rest of the season and the beginning of the 2014 season. There is still a reminder of the injury every day, as a brace secures her left knee through out every practice and game.
Essence used the hashtag #EssenceatHSS to document her time at the hospital on Wednesday. She also used her own to motivate her post-ACL surgery: #Comebackkid. She uses this on almost every social media post she shares, constantly reminding herself and fans of the battles she faced in 2013, and how she has persevered and gotten back into the game.
She is the Comeback Kid, and on Wednesday, she wanted to make sure that all of the pediatric patients at Hospital of Special Surgery knew that they would be too.
Special thanks to @pr3pe for visiting our #pediatric patients today! We hope you enjoyed today’s… https://t.co/Cn3mZpDDn9
