Washington, D.C. – November 4, 2016 – Today, the National Foundation on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition announced the addition of two new members to its Board of Directors and the selection of a new Board Chair. Swin Cash, retired WNBA Legend, Philanthropist & Sports Commentator, and Brad Smallwood, Vice President, Marketing Science at Facebook were appointed to the Board by U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia M. Burwell. The Board also unanimously selected Jimmy Lynn, Co-founder Kiswe Mobile, as the new Chair.
As the official nonprofit of the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition, the Foundation strives to ensure that all Americans can be active, play sports, and eat healthy. The Foundation and its Board of Directors seek private donations and partnerships to support programs and initiatives that educate, engage, and empower Americans of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
“Swin and Brad are tremendous additions to our team. With their unique perspectives and Jimmy’s leadership, the Foundation is well positioned to accelerate the nation’s journey to living healthy,” says Chris Watts, Executive Director, National Foundation on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition.
Both members join the Board with strong connections to the Foundation’s mission. Mrs. Cash joins the Board as one of the 20 Greatest Players in WNBA history and is a well-respected sports commentator and philanthropist. She is also the founder of “Cash for Kids,” whose mission is to motivate, educate, and elevate kids through physical fitness, nutrition and education.
“From personal experience, I have seen how being physically active and eating healthy provides benefits not just for the game of basketball, but more importantly for the game of life,” Cash remarked. “I am honored to join the Foundation Board to ensure millions of Americans can experience the same opportunities.”
Mr. Smallwood, who currently leads Facebook’s Marketing Science division and helps marketers understand how their Facebook ads are working, also shares a deep passion for leading a healthy lifestyle.
“As an avid cyclist and ultimate frisbee player, sports and fitness have shaped my life. Through athletics, I have learned countless lessons, such as teamwork and goal setting, that helped me succeed in the classroom, in the workforce, and as a father,” stated Mr. Smallwood. “I am excited to join the Foundation Board to extend these positive benefits of being healthy and active to all Americans.”
Mr. Lynn, a former AOL Sports Executive, brings a long history of developing partnerships that focus on the intersection of sports and technology. Currently, as the co-founder of Kiswe Mobile, Mr. Lynn is spearheading the innovation of interactive video for live sporting events. Mr. Lynn succeeds Patrick Cunnane, President & CEO of Advanced Sports Enterprises, whose leadership carried on the vision outlined by the founding Chair, Thomas McMillen.
“I’m proud to build on the legacy of Pat & Tom and welcome Swin and Brad to the team,” says Mr. Lynn. “I look forward to working with Chris & the Board to lead the Foundation into the future.”
