Overseas Update

For New York Liberty fans looking for up-to-date information on their favorite Liberty players as they continue to compete overseas, the following is a quick recap of how several players have fared with their European teams. The summary covers games played from February 28-March 17, 2013.

Croatian League/EuroLeague (Leilani Mitchell - Novi Zagreb)

In Croatian League play, second-ranked Novi Zagreb defeated Studenac Omis 94-57. Leilani Mitchell contributed seven points and four assists. Novi Zagreb extended its winning streak to five after defeating Zadar 87-37. Mitchell pulled down four rebounds in the contest.

Novi Zagreb defeated the host Sibenik Jolly JBS 87-76 in the final of the 2013 Croatian Cup Ruzica Meglaj-Rimac to win its first title. Leilani Mitchell scored 34 points including seven 3-pointers. Mitchell is second in the Croatian League in assists (3.5) and third steals (2.8).

Hungarian League/ EuroLeague (Plenette Pierson - Good Angels)

In the Hungarian League, Good Angels remained undefeated after a 61-45 win over Peac-Pecs. Plenette Pierson posted 10 points and six rebounds.

Pierson led her team in the 84-57 victory over UNI Gyor. She had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds for the contest.

Russian League/EuroLeague (Quanitra Hollingsworth  UMMC Ekaterinburg; Kara Braxton  Nadezhda Orenburg)

First placed UMMC defeated second-ranked Nadezhda Orenburg (Braxton) 86-69 in Russian League play. Quanitra Hollingsworth scored two points, while Kara Braxton contributed six points and four rebounds in the contest.

In Russian League play, Nadezhda defeated Dynamo 93-86. Braxton chipped in 16 points on 64 percent shooting from the field. She also pulled down seven boards.

Turkish League/EuroLeague
(Cappie Pondexter - Fenerbahce; Essence Carson - Istanbul Universitesi; Cheryl Ford  Canik Belediyesi)

Fenerbahce defeated Edremit 103-58. Cappie Pondexter contributed 11 points in 12 minutes on 4-of-5 shooting from the field. Fenerbahce extend their winning streak to four after defeating Galatasaray 71-715. Pondexter had 12 points, five assists and four rebounds.

Istanbul Universitesi maintained sixth position in the Turkish League with a 64-53 win over Botas, and Essence Carson posted 14 points. Istanbul Universitesi extended their winning streak to five after defeating Ceyhan Bld 64-72. Carson scored 14 points and had two assists.

Istanbul Universitesis winning streak was snapped after the 91-63 loss to Canik Belediyesi (Ford). Carson had 14 points and six rebounds, while Cheryl Ford led her team with a double-double, posting 22 points and 17 rebounds.

Second-ranked Galatasary bested Canik Belediyesi 39-67. Ford again led her team with a double-double, scoring 14 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.

Ford posted another double-double (24 points and 21 rebounds) though her team, Canik Belediyesi, was defeated 73-59 by Besiktas. Then Canik Belediyesi upset Botas with an 84-75 victory. Ford led her team with yet another double-double on 23 points and 13 rebounds.

In the Turkish League, Ford averages a double-double and ranks seventh in scoring (15.8) and second in rebounds (14.4). 

Brazilian League (Alex Montgomery - Recife)

Recife defeated Sao Jose 58-73 in the first semi-final game. Alex Montgomery recorded a double-double in the contest, with 10 points and 15 rebounds. She also had four assists.

In six games this season, Montgomery is averaging 11.8 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.
