Overseas Update

For New York Liberty fans looking for up-to-date information on their favorite Liberty players as they continue to compete and excel overseas, the following is a quick recap of how several players have fared with their European teams. The summary covers games played from December 12-19, 2012.

Croatian League/Euroleague (Leilani Mitchell - Novi Zagreb) Novi Zagreb rebounded from a Euroleague loss with a victory in the Croatian League, defeating Jolly 95-58 on Dec. 15. Novi Zagreb returned to Euroleague play, falling to UMMC of Russia, 101-70 on Dec. 19. Mitchell scored 11 points and recorded three assists against UMMC.

Leilani Mitchell has appeared in four Croatian League games, averaging 2.8 points, 2.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. She has also played in six Euroleague contests, averaging 8.7 points, 2.4 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. Novi Zagreb sits in the final spot of the Group C Euroleague standings.

Czech Republic League/Euroleague (Kia Vaugn - USK Praha) USK Praha returned to Euroleague play on Dec. 12, defeating Perfumerias 78-65. Kia Vaughn posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds to help lead USK Praha to the win over fellow Liberty teammate Nicole Powell of Perfumerias. USK Praha won its 15th-straight Czech Republic League contest, defeating Slovanka MB 82-51 on Dec. 15. The win streak in both leagues came to an end with loses to IMOS Brno (Czech Republic) and Galatasaray (Euroleague).

Vaughn has appeared in 12 Czech Republic League games, averaging 14.2 points, 7.8 rebounds and 1.0 blocked shots per game. In Euroleague action, Vaughn is averaging 11.4 points, 8.8 rebounds and 1.0 blocks in eight games. USK Praha is currently fourth in the Euroleague Group C standings with a 3-5 mark.

Italian League (Kelley Cain - Priolo) Priolo moved to 2-7 following a 83-55 victory over Cagliari. Kelley Cain scored nine points and grabbed six rebounds in the win. Having appeared in eight contests, Cain is averaging 11.5 points, 9.5 rebounds and 1.4 blocked shots per game for Priolo.

Spanish League/Euroleague (Nicole Powell - Perfumerias) Perfumerias dropped its Euroleague contest against USK Praha, falling to the Kia Vaughn led squad 78-65 on Dec. 12. Perfumerias returned to Spanish League competition, defeating Gran Canaria 92-76 on Dec. 15.

In Spanish League play, Powell has seen action in eight games, averaging 8.8 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists per contest. Powell has appeared in seven Euroleague games, posting 9.6 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game.

Slovakian League/Euroleague (Plenette Pierson - Good Angels) The Slovakian team, Good Angels, defeated Nadezhda Orenburg of Russia on Dec. 12 in Euroleague play. Good Angels improved to 5-2 on the season with the 77-67 victory, snapping a two-game win streak for Nadezhda Orenburg. Plenette Pierson scored in double figures with 14 points, adding four rebounds and two blocked shots.

In seven Euroleague games, Pierson is averaging 15.6 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.7 assists per contest. The Good Angels are currently atop the Euroleague Group B standings.

Turkish League/Euroleague (Cappie Pondexter - Fenerbahce; Essence Carson - Istanbul Universitesi) Istanbul Universitesi (4-5) dropped its second-straight game to fall under .500 after a 62-59 loss against fifth-ranked Botas on Dec. 16. Istanbul Univ. led by eight points after three quarters before a 20-9 run by Botas led them to the win. For Istanbul Univ. Essence Carson scored 13 points with two rebounds and one assist in 37 minutes on the floor.

In nine Turkish League games: Carson is averaging 14.0 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.4 assists per game.

Undefeated Fenerbahce (9-0) defeated second-best Kayseri (7-2) 98-62, snapping a two-game win streak for Kayseri on Dec. 16. Fenerbahce led wire-to-wire, outscoring Kayseri 60-36 in the paint. Cappie Pondexter scored five points with two rebounds and three assists in 25 minutes of action. Fenerbahce also continued its win streak in Euroleague action defeating Targoviste, 89-60.

In seven Euroleague games: Pondexter averages 11.9 points, 2.9 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game. Fenerbahce sits in the third spot of the Group B Euroleague standings. In seven Turkish League games: Pondexter is averaging 11.9 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game.
