NEW YORK LIBERTY ACQUIRE MULTIPLE DRAFT PICKS AS PART OF THREE-TEAM TRADE

NEW YORK, NY  March 1, 2013  New York Liberty Head Coach and General Manager Bill Laimbeer announced today that the team has acquired a 2013 second round pick (15th overall), a 2013 third round selection (27th overall) and the rights to guard Deanna Nolan from the Tulsa Shock, as part of a three-team deal. Tulsa receives guard Candice Wiggins in a sign and trade with the Minnesota Lynx as well as forward Nicole Powell and a 2013 third round selection (29th overall) from the Liberty. Minnesota will receive forward Janel McCarville in a sign and trade with the Liberty and a 2014 second round selection from the Shock.

New York now has four picks in the upcoming 2013 WNBA Draft, which will be held on Monday, April 15. The Liberty hold two first round selections at fifth and seventh overall, one in the second round at 15th and one in the third round at 27th.

Nolan, a three-time WNBA Champion and four-time All-Star, last played in the league in 2009. She has spent the past four seasons playing for UMMC (Russia). The sixth overall pick of the Detroit Shock in 2001, she played nine seasons for the franchise, including six under Laimbeer. Nolan was named the 2007 WNBA Finals MVP and was a four-time All-WNBA selection, earning first team honors in 2005, 2007 and second team accolades in 2003, 2008. She was also a standout defensively as a four-time WNBA All-Defensive Team selection (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008). In her nine WNBA seasons, Nolan averaged 13.6 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game. She posted averages of 21.6 points and 3.2 assists per contest in 48 career playoff appearances.

Powell played three seasons for the Liberty, averaging 8.6 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game. An eight-year WNBA veteran, Powell started her career with the Charlotte Sting in 2004, before playing five seasons with the Sacramento Monarchs. For her career, Powell is averaging 10.5 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.

McCarville, a former University of Minnesota standout, last played in the WNBA during the 2010 season. She spent the past two years playing internationally in Italy and Turkey. In four seasons with the Liberty, McCarville averaged 11.2 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. For her WNBA career, which also included two seasons on the Charlotte Sting, McCarville averaged 8.7 points and 4.7 rebounds per game.
