Junior Liberty Basketball League

In order to help address the need for organized athletic activities for high school aged girls in New York City, the Liberty partnered with the NYC Department of Youth and Community Development to create the Junior Liberty Basketball League. Competition took place on four boroughs throughout the summer and the championship games were played at MSG Training Center in Tarrytown, N.Y.

Garden of Dreams Foundation Liberty BBQ for SCO Family of Services

Liberty players and coaches came together to host a Summer BBQ Party with SCO Family of Services Flushing Family Residence, serving the nearly 100 families that reside there.

Liberty/Hospital for Special Surgery Full Court 21 League

The New York Liberty and Hospital for Special Surgery partnered to sponsor the women’s division for Bobbito Garcia’s Full Court 21 League that took place on Tuesday night’s at Booker T. Washington Playground. The women’s division winner Monet Sealy was honored at the Liberty’s game against the Minnesota Lynx.

Liberty/Hospital for Special Surgery Dyckman Women’s League

The New York Liberty and Hospital for Special Surgery partnered to sponsor the first ever Women’s Division at the Dyckman Park Basketball Summer Tournament. With competition held on Saturday nights under the lights, the women’s division featured some of the top HS, College & Overseas Pro talent NYC has to offer along with an all-star game played at The Garden.

Epiphanny Prince Back to School Bookbag Giveaway

On August 26, Epiphanny Prince paid a visit to her hometown neighborhood in Brooklyn and provided free back to school book bags and supplies at the Ingersoll Community Center. The event also featured fun competitions and prizes for all of the kids in attendance.

New York Liberty and Hospital For Special Surgery Basketball Clinic at Dyckman Park

On August 4, the Liberty along with Hospital for Special Surgery hosted a youth basketball clinic for any New York City kids at Dyckman Park. Carolyn Swords, Essence Carson and Kiah Stokes, were on hand to share their stretching strategies, run basketball drills and even signed autographs on practice shirts.

Full Court 21 NYC Women’s Division

On August 4th, Avery Warley Talbert attended the Full Court 21 NYC women’s division, co-sponsored by the Liberty and Hospital For Special Surgery at Booker T. Washington Playground to support the players and take the honorary first shot at the game.

Do Good Be Good The Sweet Life Event

On August 3rd, Brittany Boyd was a special guest at Dulce Candy’s Do Good Be Good event where she played basketball knock out with kids, shared her dance moves and talked about her basketball career.

Garden of Dreams Scavenger Hunt at the Metropolitan Museum of Art

On July 31, Liberty players met Garden of Dreams children at the MET for an afternoon scavenger hunt. Candice Wiggins, Carolyn Swords and Swin Cash as well as MSG Networks color analyst Rosalyn Gold-Onwude were led youth around the MET as team captains, putting together clues, taking photos and competing in a fun and educational scavenger hunt.

New York Liberty and Hospital For Special Surgery Basketball Clinic at Dyckman Park

On July 7th, the Liberty along with Hospital for Special Surgery hosted a youth basketball clinic for any New York City kids at Dyckman Park. Brittany Boyd, Epiphanny Prince, Sugar Rodgers, Swin Cash, and Tina Charles and Isaiah Thomas were on hand to give their knowledge of the game to local youth, play pick up games and overall, spread love for the game of basketball.

Essence Carson Visit Patients and Hosts Instagram Take Over at Hospital for Special Surgery

On June 24, Essence Carson visited patients at the Hospital for Special Surgery in the Children’s Pavilion. Her visit was highly anticipated as not only was Carson paying them a visit but she was also going to share her memories by taking over the Instagram account of @HSpecialSurgery. This is the same hospital that Essence Carson went when rehabilitating her ACL injury in the 2013 season.

Garden of Dreams Basketball Clinic

On June 23, 2015, the New York Liberty along with the Garden of Dreams Foundation, hosted a basketball clinic for kids in New York City. Avery Warley-Talbert, Brittany Boyd, Carolyn Swords, Kiah Stokes and Sugar Rodgers led drills, played basketball and even danced with kids from the Garden of Dreams foundation.

Essence Carson attends Garden of Dreams Talent Show and Rehearsal

Essence Carson has been active in Madison Square Garden’s Garden of Dreams foundation since becoming a member of the liberty in 2008. This May, she attended the Garden of Dreams Talent Show rehearsal and gave musical pointers to the performers prior to their debut on the Radio City Musical Hall Stage. On June 18th, she presented a performer and her new friend, Alexandra Kastoudous, before she sang in front of a packed radio city at the annual Garden of Dreams talent show. Both Essence and Alexandra used music to get them through hard times in their life.

Candice Wiggins and AIDS Awareness

Candice Wiggins honors her late father, who passed away from AIDs when she was only four years old, by being an AID’s and HIV activist in all of the locations she has played in during her seven year WNBA career. As a newcomer to New York City, Wiggins has already found a home at Iris House, heading there whenever she gets a chance to lend a helping hand. She visited the foundation June 22nd, and spent time with members of Listen Up Iris House,a program which educates young men about HIV/AIDs prevention. On June 15th, she spoke at their“ How to Save a Life” benefit event and shared her experiences while spending time with members of the organization.

Tina Charles Donates Half Her salary to Hopey’s Heart Foundation

For the second year in a row, Tina Charles is donating half of her salary to the foundation that she created, Hopey’s Heart. She hopes to spread awareness for Sudden Cardiac Arrest prevention through the placement of AED’s in schools and gyms across the globe. Aside from donating her salary, Tina has been very active with her foundation, hosting health and wellness events for children. Also, she has worked with FIBA Europa, the league that she plays in during the offseason, to ensure that an AED will be present at all FIBA arenas this upcoming season.

Cash 4 Kids NYC Trip

On June 11th, Swin Cash welcomed 35 children from her Cash for Kids charity all the way from her hometown of McKeesport, Pennsylvania to New York City. They had the opportunity to watch Cash play at Madison Square Garden, visit the Statue of Liberty, and get a taste of the sports and culture in New York City.

Season Tip-off Presented by Chase

On June 3rd, the New York Liberty held 11 basketball clinics in the five boroughs and New Jersey to kick off the WNBA season. Players and coaches alike had fun passing their knowledge and skills on to the next generation. The children did shooting, dribbling, and defensive drills while also being able to get autographs from their favorite Liberty players.

Drug Free All Star Tasting

On June 2nd, Essence Carson and Teresa Weatherspoon supported the Drug-Free foundation by participating in an All-Star Tasting. Drug-Free works to reduce teen substance abuse and support families impacted by addiction.
